Georgia Insurance Commissioner John King suspends 2026 Senate campaign
ATLANTA, Ga. () — Georgia Insurance and Fire Safety Commissioner, John King, announced he has suspended his senate campaign on Thursday, July 24.
The commissioner expressed his reason for suspending his campaign through a post on X (Twitter), while mentioning his former competitor and current U.S. Senator, Jon Ossoff.
'I got into the U.S. Senate race to beat Jon Ossoff, not distract from the mission. Right now it's clear there's little path forward to the nomination, so today I'm suspending my campaign. I've spent my entire life in the arena as a lawman, soldier, and first Hispanic elected statewide in Georgia, and I'm not done yet. I'm running for re-election as Insurance Commissioner to finish the job I started six years ago, and I'm going to do everything I can to keep Georgia's state offices red and back a Senate nominee who supports President Trump's agenda.'
King is the first Hispanic Republican ever to win a Georgia statewide constitutional office who was originally sworn into his insurance and fire safety commissioner position in 2019.
