The Scottish foodie village with gorgeous beach perfect for summer day out

It is once again time for the Daily Record's Town of the Week. Every week, we choose one town or village from across Scotland and delve into everything it has to offer. For the latest edition of our weekly series, we are journeying to Cullen. The pretty village by the seaside in Moray is a great place to spend a sunny summer day, with plenty of walks and beauty spots to check out. The most notable destination around the village is Cullen Beach, a golden sandy beach that looks out over Cullen Bay. It is sheltered by the surrounding cliffs, making it a great spot for a swim. Another top beauty spot well worth checking out is the Cullen Viaduct. The disused railway line, which dates back to the 1880s, crosses the Burn of Cullen. Meanwhile, Cullen is perhaps most famous for being where Cullen skink originated. The iconic Scottish dish is a thick Scottish soup that includes smoked haddock, potatoes, and onions. It isn't just its history that makes Cullen a top foodie destination. Despite its small size, there are various restaurants and cafés that serve up top-quality food. Among the standouts of the village's food scene are Linda's Fish and Chips and the Rockpool Cafe. The former is a great spot to pick up a fish supper to enjoy on the beach, while the Rockpool Cafe serves up a wide selection of breakfast and lunch dishes—including of course Cullen skink. See below for some photographs of Cullen's highlights. The historic destination is home to multiple tasty food spots. As April comes to an end and we enter May, the Daily Record has returned with an extra-beautiful Town of the Week. Each week, we select one town or village across Scotland and spotlight what makes it so unique. This week, we are journeying to the Stirling council area. Our latest Town of the Week is Bridge of Allan. A former Victorian spa town at the foot of the Ochil Hills, Bridge of Allan was built over the Allan Water. Situated just out of Stirling, it was recently named the "best place to live" in Scotland by property experts—praised for its "compelling location and good quality of life". Bridge of Allan earned its reputation as a spa town in the 19th century, when more and more tourists started visiting the Trossachs. Among the famous faces that visited the resort at one time or another were Robert Louis Stevenson and Charles Dickens. The town's heritage lives on through a variety of Victorian villas and public buildings. Even to this day, Bridge of Allan is worth a visit. Walking around, you will find amenities such as a various shops and hotels. There is also a golf club, while the legendary National Wallace Monument is only a short walk away. The picturesque destination lies at the meeting point of three beautiful lochs. If you are looking for a day-trip destination in Scotland, then you can't go wrong with the Highlands. As you move further north, there are countless villages and small towns worth a visit. One of the hidden gem destinations in the Highlands that you might not have even heard of is Dornie. The small former fishing village, nestled in the Lochalsh district in western Ross-shire, is the Daily Record's latest Village of the Week. Due to its location close to the Skye Bridge, Dornie is often regarded as a stopping point for those heading to the Isle of Skye. However, it is well worth a visit in its own right. Dornie is situated at the convergence of Loch Duich, Loch Alsh, and Loch Long. It benefits from spectacular views out across the water. Home to a population of around just 350, there isn't a lot of opportunity for shopping around the village. However, it is a great place to clear your head and breathe in the fresh country air. Thankfully, there are a couple of spots for tasty food and drink. The Clachan pub and The Dornie Hotel both serve up delicious fresh meals, while the latter is a great place to stay the night if you don't want your trip to Dornie to end. The village is also a short walk from the world-famous Eilean Donan Castle. Even if the name does not sound familiar, you will likely have seen it before—as it is one of the most photographed castles in the world. Continue reading for some photos showing some of Dornie's highlights. You can also find a few of our past Towns and Villages of the Week below:
