Centre continuing negative stand towards Kerala: CM Vijayan

He said that Kerala demanded that five kilograms of rice per card be provided to non-priority families at the rate of Rs 8.30 currently being provided to the state as a tide-over allocation. The CM, in a Facebook post, has called for a united protest by all political parties against the alleged anti-Kerala stand of the central government. Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 3 (PTI) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has claimed that the BJP-led central government's negative stand is continuing as it rejected the state's demand for additional rice allocation for the Onam festival season. The state government also demanded that the allotment of wheat, which was being provided as a tide-over allocation until two years ago, be restored, he said. To prevent the price of rice from soaring in the market during special occasions like Onam, it is necessary to ensure the availability of food grains to the non-priority sections as much as possible, he said. 'It is in this context that the state demanded an additional rice allocation to be provided to the non-priority sections,' Vijayan said in his post. He also said that according to health statistics, a significant section of the state's population is suffering from diabetes, and that is why the demand for restoring the allotment of wheat to the non-priority sections was raised. 'But the central government has been ruthlessly rejecting these demands, which are meant to help the common people. A united protest should be raised in this regard, irrespective of party politics,' he insisted. 'Protest by the people is essential to correct the anti-Kerala policy of the central government. For that, we must stand united,' the CM said. PTI HMP HMP ADB This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. ThePrint holds no responsibility for its content.

Additional rice: CM urges parties to protest against Centre's stance

Accusing the Union government of persisting with its anti-Kerala stance, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday said that even the State's demand for additional allocation of rice during the Onam season has been rejected. He made a call for a united protest of all political parties to correct the Centre's stance against Kerala. In a Facebook post, he said that the State had demanded that 5 kg of rice per card be made available to families with non-priority cards also at the rate of ₹8.30 currently being given to the State as a tide-over allocation. It has also demanded that the allotment of wheat, which was being given as a tide-over allocation till two years ago, be restored. To prevent the price of rice from soaring in the public market during special occasions like Onam, it is necessary to ensure the availability of food grains to the non-priority sections as much as possible. It is in this context that the State has demanded an additional rice allocation to be given to the non-priority sections. Studies indicate that a significant section of the State's population is suffering from diabetes. The State has made the demand for the restoration of the allotment of wheat to the non-priority sections considering this fact. However, the Union government has ruthlessly rejected these demands, said

‘Anti-development groups spreading lies about Kerala'

Kozhikode: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said anti-development campaigners are spreading lies to oppose progress and infrastructure in Kerala. Speaking at an LDF rally in Kozhikode Beach on Tuesday, he said these groups were deliberately trying to create the impression that the plan projects in state have come to a standstill. "Reality is quite the opposite. Of the Rs 30,370 crore allocated for FY 2024-25, we've already spent Rs 29,224 crore, which is 96.2% of the funds," he said. Vijayan added that of the Rs 8,532 crore set aside for local bodies, 110% of the funds have been used, with projects worth Rs 9,452 crore underway. "Yet, Kerala is being portrayed as a state where all projects have stalled," he said the state faced setbacks during the pandemic, like the rest of the country. After the pandemic, the gross state domestic product grew by 10.7% in 2022-23 and rose to 11.9% in 2023-24. He added that per capita income has also increased compared to the state average. Vijayan said it is understandable that a party like BJP, with no real foothold in the state, harbours resentment. However, he added that Congress-led UDF is adopting an anti-Kerala stance like the CM criticized the Centre for failing to help the state during the 2018 floods and other disasters. He said PM Narendra Modi, who accepted foreign aid when he was the CM of Gujarat after a natural disaster, took a stance that Kerala could not receive foreign aid. Vijayan added that after the 2018 floods, many foreign countries offered help, but the central government refused to accept it and did not assist the state."India govt flatly said no when many countries offered help to the state. What does that mean? Isn't it an attitude that Kerala can be left to suffer?" Vijayan asked."We should also note that UDF stood with the Centre and supported its stance. UDF thought we would fail. But now, both India and the world are surprised at how Kerala overcame all those challenges," he said, adding that the unity of the people made it possible.
