National Guard troops carry out first patrol of DC
The District of Columbia National Guard commenced operations in Washington, DC, on Tuesday as part of President Donald Trump 's anti-crime initiative.
Around 800 Guard personnel have been called to the capital, despite municipal data indicating a decrease in crime figures compared to the previous year.
Activated under Title 32, the troops are not expected to be involved in arrests, and their deployment is scheduled to conclude on 25 September.
This Guard deployment complements the "DC Safe and Beautiful Task Force," which includes federal agents and DC police officers now under federal control, leading to 23 arrests on Monday night.
President Trump has indicated a desire to deploy similar National Guard operations to other Democrat-led cities, though he faces significant legal hurdles outside of Washington, DC.
