The Paris Opera wants you to 'feel first, understand later'
One of the world's most iconic cultural institutions, the Paris Opera, invites audiences to experience emotion before intellect. Founded by Louis XIV in 1669, it has shaped centuries of artistic expression, balancing opera and ballet in equal measure. But behind the grandeur of the Palais Garnier lies a simple truth, your first connection to art doesn't need expertise, just openness. Whether you're drawn to theatre, sculpture, or sound, there's an opera waiting to resonate with you. The experience begins, not just on stage, but the moment you step inside.

Modigliani – Three Days on the Wing of Madness review – Johnny Depp's painter as bohemian badass
Some very cliched roistering, life-affirming wine-drinking, bourgeois-defying artistic shenanigans here from the veteran screenwriting couple Jerzy and Mary Olson-Kromolowski who have adapted a 1980 stage play, Modigliani by Dennis McIntyre, about the Italian sculptor and painter Amedeo Modigliani, known as Modi. Johnny Depp directs and perhaps sees his subject as a bohemian badass not unlike Hunter S Thompson, whom he played in Terry Gilliam's 1998 movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas – and perhaps not altogether unlike how he sees himself. It is 1916 in Paris and the brutality of war is destroying the belle époque; Riccardo Scamarcio plays Modigliani, a brilliant, sensual but penniless artist facing poverty and casual antisemitism. Having got into a chaotic affray at a pompous posh restaurant – filmed like a deleted scene from Richard Lester's The Three Musketeers – Modigliani has to lie low from the police and dreams of quitting Paris, to the bewilderment of his quaintly imagined artist comrades Maurice Utrillo (Bruno Gouery) and Chaïm Soutine (Ryan McParland), and his lover (and subject) Beatrice Hastings (Antonia Desplat). But according to his longsuffering dealer Léopold Zborowski (Stephen Graham) he has to wait three days for a certain wealthy collector to hit town – a collector that Zborowski assures Modigliani is interested in his work; this is Maurice Gangnat, played in cameo by Al Pacino. So Modigliani must go to ground, restlessly haunting the streets and the lowlife nightspots pursued by his own demons. This lavishly produced and costumed European co-production is handsomely cast – but the range of talent here feels wasted on what is a fundamentally dated and stereotypical drama, whose Bohemian passion is diluted. Scamarcio does his best and he is arguably the best actor for the job, but there is something rather shallow here. Modigliani – Three Days on the Wing of Madness is in UK cinemas from 11 July.

Bindi Irwin reveals her daughter Grace's incredible talent - as the four-year-old takes after uncle Robert
Bindi Irwin has revealed that her daughter Grace is already exhibiting incredible artistic skills. The four-year-old is a budding photographer and is as handy with the lens as most adults. The Wildlife Warrior, 26, shared an image on Instagram on Sunday in which she was cuddled up to husband Chandler Powell. In the caption, Bindi revealed that the tot took the photo for the couple in a particularly sweet moment. 'This is the first photo Grace has ever taken of us,' Bindi wrote. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'She asked me if she could take a photo on my phone, looked at it, and said, "cuuute," she continued. 'Everything about these few minutes in time makes my heart happy. It's the little moments that really mean the most.' It appears the little girl is taking after her uncle, Bindi's brother Robert Irwin, who is also well known for his photography skills. Robert, 21, even won the Wildlife Photographer of the Year People's Choice Award in 2020. It comes after Bindi shared a heartwarming family photo last month as she visited Disney World in the US with her husband Chandler and their daughter Grace. Bindi could be seen posing with her brood in front of the Florida theme park's iconic Cinderella castle in a sweet photo posted on Instagram. Chandler, 28, carried little Grace, who was dressed for the occasion in a sparkling frock and a Mickey Mouse hat, as Bindi held her husband's hand and smiled. 'May was an incredible month,' Chandler captioned the family photo. The former wakeboard champion then listed some moments the family shared, including Bindi's shock medical emergency, which emerged as a blessing in disguise. 'Visiting my family in Florida, Bindi getting life-changing surgery, Oregon adventures, and Disney all together,' he wrote. 'Very grateful,' Chandler finished off the post, which has garnered over 33,000 likes. Earlier this year, Bindi was rushed to hospital just hours after touching down in Las Vegas for a gala honouring her late father Steve Irwin. She suffered a ruptured appendix and was raced into surgery, missing the prestigious event she was due to attend alongside brother Robert Irwin and mother Terri Irwin. Robert told People magazine at the time, Bindi was recovering and her mother was at her bedside. 'She's going to be okay, but surgery - out of all the things we were ready for, that was not one of them,' Robert explained. Terri also missed the event while accompanying her daughter to hospital and staying by her side through surgery. Robert explained Bindi had been suffering some pain in the lead-up to the gala, but had tried to soldier on. 'She came to Las Vegas and was ready to put on a brave face. She said, "I'm just going to tough it out." 'But the surgeon told her, "Your appendix is going. It's got to come out."' In an Instagram post, Bindi revealed, while her appendix was removed, doctors discovered another 14 lesions from her endometriosis. These were also successfully removed. She also had a large hernia repaired, which had developed after giving birth to daughter Grace in 2021.
