14 affordable outdoor and patio essentials that'll transform your backyard for summer: Side tables, patio lights and more
Giving your backyard a makeover doesn't have to be a major project — or a major expense, either. Sometimes, it's the small changes (or a good deep clean) that can make the biggest difference. The goal here isn't to completely overhaul the area — it's to create an outdoor space that feels welcoming without spending beyond your budget. With a few affordable upgrades, your backyard can go from "meh" to a fantastic hosting space for summer. Whether that means switching up the lighting, adding some extra shade or finally tidying up those corners you've been ignoring, we've rounded up 14 products to help you do just that. The best part? They're all under $200. A table and a cooler? Yes, please. This dual-function side table is the perfect addition to backyards that see plenty of summer BBQs and hang outs. All you have to do is fill it with ice (and your favourite beverages). Keep your pathways illuminated with this set of eight solar lights. They'll automatically turn on at dusk and off at dawn, so all you have to do is stake them into the ground. This chainsaw is compact, lightweight and cordless, which will make it a little easier to prune trees, cut firewood or get your next DIY project done. It comes with a pair of work gloves and safety goggles to keep dust and wood chips out of your eyes. Whether you want to hide unsightly trash bins, an AC unit or create an area for privacy, this slatted screen ought to do the trick. If you want to make it look even better, get some climbing plants like clematis or honeysuckle and have them grow up and along it. Keep your backyard in tip-top shape by plucking your weeds with this puller tool. It's extra long, so you won't have to bend over to get all the way to the root. Interlocking deck tiles are a great way to give your deck a mini makeover without busting out the power tools. Just snap the joints together and voilà! You've got yourself a brand new patio floor. They're waterproof and can be cut to cover curved edges or oddly-shaped areas. This set comes with 10 tiles. Keep your garden hose tangle-free with this hideaway pot. More affordable (and a lot cuter) than your typical hose box, you can keep your hose hidden, coiled up and ready for everyday use. Here's a set of four tabletop citronella torches to keep the mosquitos at bay, not to mention add a little romantic ambiance to your backyard in the evening. One reviewer says they're 'easy to fill,' while another appreciates that they 'hold enough fluid to last many hours.' Give your garden beds a refresh with this lawn edging tool. It'll help you create clean, crisp borders, which will make your yard look professionally maintained (even if it isn't). Whether your backyard is south-facing or not, it never hurts to have a designated area for shade in the summer months. It's also waterproof, so it can provide some rain coverage too. It comes with everything you need to set it up, including carabiners, ropes and a carrying bag to store it in. Sometimes, all it takes is a little elbow grease (or a pressure washer) to bring some life back to outdoor spaces. You can use this thing to blast away dirt, grime and mildew from patios, decks, fences and even some furniture sets. Turn your lawn into a lush, grassy oasis with this travelling sprinkler. With adjustable diameter coverage, automatic shut-off and three speeds, you'll never forget to water your garden again. Declutter your back patio with a stylish wood storage box. You can use it to stash pillows, toys, gardening tools — you name it. Throw a few outdoor pillows on top and it can be used as extra seating, too. Here's a pair of semi-sheer curtains that'll provide a little privacy (and romantic vibes) to your porch or deck. It'll change the entire feel of your space, as well as provide a little protection from the sun. Curtain rods are sold separately.

Shoppers race to B&M to bag £2.50 garden buy that will transform your lawn edge in seconds and save you so much cash
With the sunshine here to stay for a while, more and more people are spending time in their gardens. So it's no surprise that many are noticing areas in their outdoor space that could do with some TLC. 2 2 Whether it's adding a few extra plants to brighten up the flowerbeds or getting patios sparkling clean, spending more time outdoors often highlights the need for a backyard makeover. Fortunately, you don't have to break the bank to spruce up your garden. Local supermarkets and budget retailers may have just what you need for very reasonable prices. And B&M has certainly become a go-to destination for gardening essentials, offering affordable buys that make a big impact. This week, shoppers spotted a reduced item that is the perfect solution for unsightly lawn edges. It takes just seconds to install and can create a pretty divide between your grass and flowerbeds, without forking out for a wall or wooden sleepers. The stone effect lawn edging comes in a pack of four and is reduced from £4 to £2.50, saving you £1.50. The team at B&M say the "stunning" bargain is the ideal way to "frame your garden", with each panel measuring W26 x H22cm. Their online description adds: "A stylish and durable touch to your outdoor space and perfect for adding definition to flowerbeds and pathways." Gardening fans have been going wild for the gardening buy after one shopper shared a picture on the BARGAIN LOVERS Poundland, Home Bargains, B&M, Primark, The Range & More Facebook group, which has 818,000 members. The four easy steps to get your tired lawn lush for summer & you don't need to worry about pigeons ruining it either "Would look nice for the centre of the front lawn", one person said. A second gushed: "I need to go and get some off these." "No way! We need to grab some of them", echoed a third. A fourth insisted: "This would look cute at the bottom of the fence." "Can someone get me 10 packs please?" pleaded a fifth. And a sixth wrote: "Got some yesterday £2.50 box." Other shoppers, however, are not sold on the lawn gadget. "Looks well cheap and tacky", one person blasted. Somebody else claimed: "I doubt they'll stay nice for long." A third revealed: "Not good if you have kids! Snap straight away." Meanwhile, a fourth wrote: "Absolute cheap, tacky tat my friend had them in her garden and she was fuming how they looked. "We all had a good laugh - she was laughing I mean and made her husband remove them." How to save money at B&M Shoppers have saved hundreds of pounds a year by using B&M's scanner app. The scanner lets you see if an item's price is cheaper than advertised on the shop floor label. Products that are typically discounted are seasonal items and old stock that B&M is trying to shift. The app is free to download off the B&M Stores mobile app via Google Play or the Apple App Store. According to one ex-B&M manager, you'll want to visit your local branch at 10am on a Wednesday too. Here's how you can join the B&M bargain hunt: Download the B&M app for free on any smartphone with an App Store or Google Play. Once you've installed it on your device, click on the option labelled "more" on the bottom, right-hand side of the app home page. You'll then find an option that says "barcode scanner". Click on this and you'll open a camera screen. Use the camera to hover over the barcode of the product you wish to check. If the price comes up as lower, take it to the cash desk and it will automatically scan at the lower price. You don't need to sign up to the B&M app to use the barcode scanner. If this one has left you on the fence, there are always other ways you can make your garden look elegant and sophisticated on the cheap. Another item available at B&M to help elevate your garden and also give you extra privacy is an Arch Metal Trellis available for just £3. Not only does the trellis look nice but it's also 62cm tall meaning it can help add privacy. It's available in two designs - a fleur de lis and a bee pattern - making it a fitting addition to any garden. A description on the B&M website reads: "Add a decorative focal point to your garden with this Arch Metal Trellis. "Perfect for climbing plants and flowers." With temperatures rising in the summer months you can enjoy a relaxing day in the sun without worrying about your neighbours. A trellis can provide an exciting opportunity for green thumbs to show off their gardening skills with vines and climbing flowers. It's perfect for growing vegetables like cucumbers, peas and pole beans, as well as flowers like wisteria, clematis and jasmine to add a bit of colour to your garden.
