Disney Plus Cancels Beloved Series After Two Seasons

Although Disney Plus offers a place for many new shows to call home, not all of them get to stay very long, and that's the case with one beloved series that only lasted two seasons on the platform. Sadly, two years after the first season of the series premiered on Disney Plus, the cancellation has been confirmed. Fans are bound to be disappointed as this series was based on a major IP that has appealed to several generations' worth of fans. The numbers for this Disney Plus series even confirmed that audiences were eager to enjoy a new interpretation of the material. For Disney, however, it looks like the series just didn't work out for the platform. Fortunately, there seems to be some hope that the series could find a new home as the studio behind it shops it to new outlets. As shared via Variety: 'According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, series producer Sony Pictures Television plans to shop the show to other outlets and explore different creative directions for the IP.' This IP is none other than Goosebumps , the Disney Plus series inspired by the hit books of the same name. R.L. Stine's Goosebumps series quickly became a worldwide sensation and spawned tons of merchandise and a completely separate live-action show in the 1990s. This was followed by two live-action movies later released by Sony Pictures in the 2010s, paving the way for the aforementioned Disney Plus series. The outlet confirms that the popularity of the books still surrounded the series, as it 'pulled in 75 million hours views combined in the U.S.' between the two seasons, with the Disney Plus show also having '43 million hours viewed across 16 international markets.' Each season of the series revolved around a different group of characters and stories inspired by the books, and it's possible that this change in concept just didn't work for Disney Plus. With Sony Pictures Television interested in keeping the Goosebumps television brand alive, however, we could see some kind of return in the future. Either way, Goosebumps as a whole is still going strong, with new books being published to this day. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Goosebumps as we have them. It'll be interesting to see if a new home is located for the series, though fans can still view the two existing seasons of the show on Disney Plus.
