A map highlighting the area where the incident took place. (Winnipeg Police Service) The Winnipeg Police Service is investigating after a woman was attacked on a bike path at Assiniboine Park over the weekend. Police were called to the area just east of the park's Roblin Boulevard entrance at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Officers allege a 25-year-old woman was assaulted while walking east on Roblin near Commissary Road. Police said the suspect continued the attack while demanding money until several witnesses intervened. The suspect left the scene before police arrived. The suspect involved in the attack is described as a heavy-set man who was wearing a dark jacket with the hood up, a dark baseball hat, charcoal-coloured sweatpants, glasses or sunglasses, and black shoes. Police brought in on medical call However, officers were called back to the area at around 5:30 p.m. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was already there for a medical call involving a man who matched the description of the suspect in the previous assault. The man was taken to the hospital in stable condition and identified as the suspect. No charges have been laid, but the man remains in custody on the strength of an unrelated unendorsed warrant. Anyone who may have encountered this man at the time of the attack or who has any information about the incident, including pictures or videos, is asked to contact police at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477. The investigation continues, but there is no concern for public safety
