Powys farm celebrating success in second year with cattle
A Powys farm is celebrating a new round of success after only their second year of showing cattle.
Jonsland Pedigree Blues based at Tynybryn farm near Newtown celebrated success for their cattle this year having previously picked up titles in horses and sheep.
Tynybryn Farm, based near Tregynon, is run by the Jones family and Dan Jones and niece Florence were very happy succeeding in only their second year.
'Not too bad,' said Dan. 'We were second with the bull, first with one heifer, second with another and third with another and we won the pairs.
'This is only our second year here, their mother we bought in Carlisle in 2019. We flushed her and all these four cattle are all from the same cow and were all born the same day.
'It's hopefully a successful line going forward and we will have the right bloodlines to breed stock.'
Dan said the family are 'born and bred farmers' and all are very much involved with their farm.
'I'm a lifelong farmer,' said Dan. 'I'm in a wheelchair after I broke my neck while playing rugby back in 1989 I was a jockey before that.
'My brother Tim is here, and Florence is his daughter - she does all the showing. I'm still very much involved I do all the paperwork.'

While the family have had success at the show in the past it has traditionally always been with other animals.
'We have been coming to the show for years,' said Dan. 'This is only the second year we have had cattle but we have won championships with horses, we used to have hunters.
'We also used have blue Texel sheep and we won championships with those as well - this is all a bit of a new venture for us.'
