2025 College Football Bowl Eligibility Tracker

Heading into the first 2025 college football weekend, it's never too early to get ready for bowl season. A new update will publish every Monday through the regular season to show where every FBS program stands when it comes to bowl eligibility. The future of the College Football Playoff is all over the place but when it comes to this year's postseason, here's a quick overview. The final day of the regular season is on Nov. 29 with bowl games expected to be announced on Dec. 7. Bowl season begins Dec. 13 and ends Jan. 19. The postseason consists of 35 traditional bowl games, four CFP first round games, four quarterfinal games, two semifinal games and one national championship game. That adds to up to 46 matchups with 82 FBS programs set to play beyond conference championship weekend. To qualify for bowl eligibility, teams must win at least six games, and they can only count one win against FCS opponents. If there are too many bowl-eligible teams, some will be left out of postseason play. If there are not enough bowl-eligible teams, the first two spots would go to Delaware and Missouri State, which are transitioning from the FCS, assuming they satisfy the bowl-eligibility criteria. After that, it will come down to Academic Progress Rate scores for teams one win away from bowl eligibility, which is why in some years you see teams with a 5-7 record competing in bowl games. Before the countdown to bowl season even begins, one program has already been eliminated. Akron was ruled ineligible for postseason play in May due to a failing Academic Progress Rate score during the 2023-24 season. Bowl Eligible Teams (0) The following programs secured at least six victories to become bowl eligible. Eliminated from Bowl Eligibility (1) The following programs are no longer eligible to participate in a bowl game. This includes teams that will fall short of the five-win mark or teams that are ineligible for non-football reasons. Teams Needing 6 More Wins (135) The following programs are six victories away from bowl eligibility. FBS APR Rankings If fewer than 82 teams become bowl eligible, it will come down to Academic Progress Rate scores for teams one win away from bowl eligibility. Here's a look at the APR score rankings among teams still eligible for bowl game participation. *Akron is ineligible for postseason play due to a failing APR score during the 2023-24 season. **Delaware and Missouri State would get a bowl bid if there are not enough bowl-eligible teams and if they satisfy bowl eligibility criteria.

Auburn earns bowl nod in ESPN's preseason projections

After missing out on bowl season last year, the Auburn Tigers are poised to make another run at postseason play. What is a realistic expectation for the Tigers postseason fate? ESPN experts Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach expect Auburn to meet up with an ACC team at season's end, but in two different destinations. Bonagura and Schlabach project the Tigers to face Boston College in postseason play, however, Bonagura has the Tigers and Eagles facing off in the Gasparilla Bowl on Friday, Dec. 19 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, while Schlabach forecasts Auburn facing Boston College closer to home in the Birmingham Bowl on Monday, Dec. 29. If this forecasted matchup were to take place, it would be a game against teams that are projected to barely cross the threshold into bowl eligibility. According to ESPN's Football Power Index, Auburn is projected to win 6.9 games while Boston College sits at 5.9. However, the two teams are on opposite paths in terms of postseason forecasts. Auburn has an 83.6% chance to win six games while Boston College has a 58.7% chance. For playoff consideration, Auburn has a 12% chance while Boston College has a less than 1% chance. Auburn football has lost seven games in each of the last four seasons, but the program is even more starved for a bowl win. The last bowl win the Tigers earned was in the 2018 season when Auburn boat raced Purdue in the Music City Bowl, 63-14. Since then, Auburn has lost four-straight postseason games, including its most recent game against Maryland in the 2023 Music City Bowl. The SEC is projected to be well represented in postseason play. ESPN's FPI gives 13 of 16 SEC teams at least 60% odds to reach the six wins needed to earn bowl eligibility, nine teams have 30% or greater odds to make the College Football Playoff, and three teams have at least an 11% chance to win the College Football National Championship. CBS Sports shares early bowl projection for Auburn

After missing out on bowl season last year, the Auburn Tigers are expected to be in the mix to secure a postseason destination in 2025. CBS Sports recently revealed their early bowl projections, which included the Auburn Tigers. CBS projects Auburn to head to Florida for bowl season to meet up with the Memphis Tigers in the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl, which will take place at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida in December. The Gasparilla Bowl, which has also been historically known as the St. Petersburg Bowl and the Beef O'Brady's Bowl, has been played before Christmas since 2017. Last season, Florida defeated Tulane, 33-8, in the game that took place on Dec. 20. Auburn hopes to re-write its bowl history in 2025 After piecing together its longest bowl streak in program history by playing in nine-consecutive postseason games from 2013-21, Auburn has missed postseason play in two of the last three seasons. Auburn's last bowl win came in 2018 when it defeated Purdue in the Music City Bowl, 63-14. Since then, Auburn has lost four-straight bowl games, including its most recent appearance in 2023 when it lost 31-13 to Maryland in the Music City Bowl. Advertisement Auburn is also looking to end a bleak streak in which they have lost seven games in each of the last four seasons. Last year, Auburn finished 5-7 with a 2-6 mark in SEC play. Auburn started the season with a 2-5 record before winning three of its last five games. The Memphis Tigers could be a quality bowl opponent for Auburn Auburn's projected bowl opponent, Memphis, won 11 games last season. The Tigers have won four bowl games in five seasons under head coach Ryan Silverfield, which includes a three-game streak. Memphis is projected to be another strong contender in the American Athletic Conference this season alongside Tulane, USF, and Navy. Gasparilla Bowl history If this projection were to hold, it would be Auburn's first-ever appearance in the Gasparilla Bowl and the second for Memphis. Memphis lost the inaugural Gasparilla Bowl to USF in 2008, 41-14.
