John Lennon and Yoko Ono's Political Period Focus of Massive ‘Power to the People' Box Set

John Lennon and Yoko Ono's most political musical era, when the pair moved to New York City in 1971, is the focus of a massive upcoming box set featuring over 90 unreleased recordings. Power to the People (Super Deluxe Edition) — releasing via Capitol/UMe on October 10, one day after Lennon would have been 85 — collects recordings from 1969 to 1972, from their 1969 bed-in anthem 'Give Peace a Chance' to their One to One concerts at Madison Square Garden, Lennon's only full shows after leaving the Beatles, and the last concerts Lennon ever performed. More from Rolling Stone Why the World Never Fell Out of Love with the Prince of Darkness The World's Hardest Beatles 'Abbey Road' Quiz Come Together: John Varvatos Drops John Lennon Collection That 'Pays Homage to a True Icon' The 'Super Deluxe' box set features 12 discs — nine audio and three Blu-ray — and was compiled and produced by their son Sean Ono Lennon. 'I was completely floored putting this collection together and getting to remix the concerts and hearing all the unreleased material from my parents' archive for the first time,' Sean Ono Lennon said in a statement. 'People may not realize how special it is for me to hear my dad talking or to see him. I grew up with a set number of images and audio clips that everyone's familiar with. So to come across things that I've never seen or heard is really deep for me, because it's almost like getting more time with my dad. When I was eleven, my mum put out the Live in New York City album and film. So I grew up listening to it. It was a concert that had a legendary status in my mind, because it was my dad's last concert.' Ahead of Power to the People's release, Capitol/UMe have shared an unreleased live version of the Beatles' 'Come Together,' recorded during the evening One to One show: The box set features both the afternoon and evening One to One shows, plus live recordings of Lennon, Ono, and the Plastic Ono Band from the era, including June 1971 jam with Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention at the Fillmore East. Lennon's own unreleased home recordings from late 1971 are also included, as well as never-before-heard tracks from Lennon and Phil Ochs' joint set in December 1971. The super deluxe edition is accompanied by a 204-page book, newsprint poster, postcards, stickers and other replica ephemera from the era. Power to the People, which follows the recent deep dive into Lennon's Mind Games, will also be available in scaled-down 4LP, 2LP and CD editions boasting highlights from the collection. All versions are available to preorder now. Super Deluxe Edition Track List CD1 / BR1HYBRID 'BEST OF' SHOW 1. Power To The People (intro)* †2. New York City*3. It's So Hard*4. Move On Fast* †5. Elvis Presley Charts A Brand New Top 10 Album

It takes a special kind of artist to continue scoring new chart wins years and even decades after their passing. Very few manage it, especially without a vault full of unreleased albums ready to go. Elvis Presley is one such star, as he regularly returns to rankings all over the world whenever his estate issues reworkings, remixes, previously unheard demos, live recordings, and compilations. The rock and roll legend is back in the United Kingdom with a new victory, as his latest box set opens inside the top 10 on multiple tallies. Elvis Presley's New Top 10 Album Presley's newly-released Sunset Boulevard box set launches on five rankings in the U.K., and it becomes a top 10 bestseller on two of them. The superstar posthumously starts his new release at No. 5 on both the Official Album Sales and Official Physical Albums charts this frame. Elvis Presley's Ninth Top 10 The set gives Presley his ninth top 10 win and thirty-seventh total placement on the Official Album Sales chart, which ranks the bestselling projects in the U.K. regardless of genre or format. He has fared even better on the list that tracks only physical products such as CDs, cassettes, and vinyl. Sunset Boulevard earns him an eighteenth top 10 on that tally — twice as many as on the sales-based ranking — and marks his sixty-eighth overall appearance. Nearly a Vinyl Top 10 Sunset Boulevard nearly cracks the top 10 on the Official Vinyl Albums chart, but it misses out on reaching the tier by just one space. As it opens at No. 11, the project becomes Presley's milestone twentieth entry on the format-specific roster. Elvis Presley on the Downloads and Albums Lists The collectible box set also appears on both the Official Album Downloads chart and the main Official Albums ranking, coming in at Nos. 25 and 67, respectively. Sunset Boulevard becomes Presley's sixteenth hit on the downloads tally, and he pushes his career total to 139 placements on the 100-spot list of the most consumed albums in the nation. Rare Recordings From RCA's Los Angeles Studios Comprised of five CDs (or two LPs on a 'highlights' edition), Sunset Boulevard chronicles Presley's recording sessions and rehearsals at RCA's studios in Los Angeles. The collection features 89 rare tracks, some which may be familiar to fans in some takes, while others are brand new to the public.

Oasis Celebrate Reunion Tour Kick-Off With Massive ‘Complete Studio Album Collection' Box Set

With their first two triumphant reunion shows under their belts, Oasis are not done giving the people what they want. Following the kick-off of the Gallagher brothers' much-anticipated first road show in 16 years, Oasis announced on Tuesday (July 8) that they will be releasing a sprawling, career-covering, limited-edition box set later this summer title Oasis: Complete Studio Album Collection. The set will feature all of the band's LPs, beginning with their smash one-two punch of 1994's Definitely Maybe and 1995's (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, as well as Be Here Now (1997), Standing on the Shoulder of Giants (2000), Heathen Chemistry (2002), Don't Believe the Truth and their (for now) studio swansong, 2008's Dig Out Your Soul. The collection will also wind in the band's 1998 B-sides compilation, The Masterplan. The box set news comes on the heels of last week's announcement of a 30th anniversary edition of the group's sophomore album, (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, which will feature the remastered album as well as new unplugged versions of five of the album's beloved tracks: 'Cast No Shadow,' 'Morning Glory,' 'Wonderwall,' 'Champagne Supernova' and 'Acquiesce.' The collection, due out on Oct. 3 through Big Brothers Recordings, will be issued in 2-CD, 3-LP and digital formats. After calling it quits in 2009 following years of animosity, band leader brothers singer Liam and guitarist-songwriter Noel Gallagher buried the hatched in 2024 and announced this year's get-back tour. The anticipated reunion kicked off on July 4 in Cardiff, Wales with a rapturously received two-hour set that hit found the siblings in fine form as they blasted through such beloved hits as 'Morning Glory,' 'Some Might Say,' 'Supersonic,' 'Roll With It,' 'Cast No Shadow,' 'Live Forever,' 'Wonderwall' and Champagne Supernova,' among others.
