Firefighters battle fast-moving brush fire in Chino Hills
Firefighters rushed to contain a rapidly spreading brush fire that broke out Wednesday afternoon in southwestern San Bernardino County. The Euclid Fire was first spotted around 1:45 p.m. along Highway 71 in Chino Hills. As of 4:30 p.m., it had burned approximately 150 acres on both sides of the highway, a Cal Fire spokesperson told KTLA 5 News. Sky5's Gil Leyvas reported that the blaze was burning through dry brush on the west side of the highway and also thicker vegetation in the area of Prado Regional Park and Chino Creek, just north of the Santa Ana River bed. Smoke was visible from across Jurupa Valley and the Inland Empire. Several fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters were assisting ground crews in building containment lines and dousing the fire with water. Officials closed Highway 71 in both directions at Euclid Avenue. There were no reports of homes threatened or evacuations. The cause of the fire was under investigation. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Brush fire in Chino Hills forces 71 Freeway closure
Both sides of the 71 Freeway were closed on Wednesday afternoon in Chino Hills as crews battled a brush fire. The blaze was reported before 2:20 p.m. The California Highway Patrol said all lanes of the 71 Freeway were closed at the Euclid Avenue onramp in Chino Hills. According to Caltrans, the closure caused a traffic backup to the 91 Freeway in Corona on the northbound lanes, and to Pine Avenue on the southbound lanes. The CHP urged travelers to avoid the area. It's not yet clear when the freeway will reopen. No additional details, including acreage, were immediately made available.
