Masdar City launches community-driven digital platform, 24/7 customer support centre

Masdar City Free Zone has unveiled a significant development in business service delivery, becoming the first Free Zone in the UAE to introduce both a 24/7 customer support centre and a community-driven digital platform, MasdarCom. These initiatives support the UAE's broader digital transformation agenda and align with Abu Dhabi's Economic Vision 2030. MasdarCom is a centralised digital ecosystem designed to connect companies operating within Masdar City. Through the platform, businesses can promote services, collaborate with others, and manage transactions through a unified, innovative-focused interface. The platform will also be accessible to global users, helping to enhance the international visibility of UAE-based enterprises. The 24/7 Customer Support Centre, launched alongside MasdarCom, is the first of its kind in a UAE Free Zone. It provides around-the-clock assistance to tenants via phone, email, Microsoft Teams, and self-service kiosks, covering core services such as licensing, visa processing, and payments. Ahmed Baghoum, CEO of Masdar City, said, 'MasdarCom is not just a platform. It is a transformative leap in how Free Zones support their business communities. As the first digital ecosystem of its kind in Abu Dhabi, MasdarCom reflects our vision to lead with innovation, streamline business operations, and enable companies to grow smarter and faster. Combined with the launch of our 24/7 Customer Support Center, we are ensuring that every business in Masdar City Free Zone has the tools, access, and assistance they need at any time. We are creating a connected, future-focused business community that reinforces Abu Dhabi's position as a global hub for sustainable enterprise.' As part of the event proceedings, Masdar City Free Zone signed two new Memoranda of Understanding. The first, with Emirates NBD, is designed to simplify the banking experience for businesses operating within the zone, while also paving the way for joint initiatives and business development programs. The second MoU was signed with Torry Harris Business Solutions, a technology firm. It establishes a framework for exploring co-marketing initiatives and leveraging digital tools that support entrepreneurs and SMEs in the Free Zone. The Town Hall brought together government officials, industry leaders, and strategic partners. Key discussions focused on Abu Dhabi's global economic positioning and the role of Masdar City Free Zone in enabling sustainable, innovation-led growth. Panelists included representatives from ADIO, ADRA, Emirates NBD, Cell Lab 7, and The Catalyst.

Hong Kong trade bodies urged to learn from Qatar to enhance investor services

Five public corporations in Hong Kong dedicated to supporting businesses should learn from Qatar and enhance their coordination to offer more comprehensive services to foreign investors, the head of one body has said. Hong Kong Productivity Council chairman Sunny Tan, who joined Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu 's delegation on a four-day visit to the Middle East this week, said on Saturday that he was inspired by the Qatar Development Bank. He said the Trade Development Council, InvestHK, the Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises, the Productivity Council and the Hong Kong Export Credit Insurance Corporation should work more closely. 'The Qatar Development Bank is not a bank, but a government statutory body that offers many services to help and attract foreign companies coming for investment or local businesses,' Tan told a radio programme on Saturday. 'My impression is that this one institution is equivalent to our [five organisations] combined. 'This made me feel that while the support we provide in Hong Kong for businesses or the business sector is excellent, we need to better coordinate our public institutions.'

Shropshire traders worried about town centre regeneration

Businesses in a Shropshire town centre that is being redeveloped have asked for extra support from their local in Oakengates, Telford, began in 2023, and traders have said it has caused shoppers to stay work, which also involves the building of a new theatre, is due to continue until the end of Carter, the leader of Telford and Wrekin Council has said the project will be a "real game-changer" for the town and has promised to listen to businesses and offer them support where possible. Sarah Williams, who runs Business Retreat Boutique in Oakengates, said the problem was not just the disruption caused by the building work, it was the perception of the town said: "The problem is people don't think there is anything here any more."Ms Williams said there needed to be campaigns to "highlight what we have in the town". Nigel Booth from All Floors and Rugs has been in Oakengates for 23 years and said recently he had noticed "people are not coming in to the shop to actually buy our rugs".He said: "We were told this rebuilding project was going to enhance the footfall, but to date it just seems to be deteriorating.""It just seems to be a continual building project," he added. Mal Johnson from Kings Fashion has a more optimistic view and said: "It is going to look really nice when it's finished, so we've just got to ride it out."But he said he had seen a decline in footfall. He also said he had met with the council to suggest more information signs to tell people how the work would improve said people needed to know it was "not just shutting down". Mr Carter said his authority was "committed to high streets", but the old Limes Walk precinct in Oakengates, which was built in the 1960s, had "seen better days".He said the redevelopment was part of a "huge programme" of investment, which included the £24m theatre, and that he believes it will give the town a "real bounce" when it is complete."The long term aim here is to make sure Oakengates is a thriving place," he the meantime, he told traders: "Just keep talking to us because we'll do as much as we can with whatever tools we've got available to help us to support businesses through this difficult period."That support could take the form of grants, he said, but he also wanted to hear their suggestions."We don't want to do this to affect footfall or affect businesses in any way," he said. Mr Carter also said he would push to make sure the work finished on time and within said his authority had a track record of making this happen.
