Tony Winner Sam Pinkleton Never Thought
The riotously funny Oh, Mary! —a show that imagines Mary Todd Lincoln as an alcoholic and aspiring cabaret singer—won big at the Tony Awards on June 8, nabbing a best actor trophy for nonbinary comedian Cole Escola as Mary and a best director award for Sam Pinkleton. A veteran choreographer, Pinkleton was previously nominated for choreography in 2016 for Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812, but Oh, Mary! is his first Broadway directing credit. The scrappy show started with a sold-out off-Broadway run at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in the West Village before transferring to the Lyceum Theatre last summer and has since broken box-office records. The wildly inventive, madcap show has been a critical and commercial smash, with talent including Tituss Burgess and Betty Gilpin donning the curly wig and black dress to play Lincoln. Star Escola is back in another limited run on Broadway, which has been extended through September. Despite Oh, Mary! 's massive success, Pinkleton says he and Escola had no inkling the production could become as big as it has.

Thick & Tight: Natural Behaviour review – giddy cabaret with a turn from Donald the orange panto horse
It was the comment on Katy Perry's space flight you didn't know you needed. Daniel Hay-Gordon and El Perry (AKA Thick & Tight) dressed as flies on the wall of the Blue Origin space shuttle, costumes made of black bin bags and pipe cleaners, listening to Katy blather about her connection to the universe. How much can they stand before pressing the giant red 'Eject' button that sits in front of them? How to describe what Thick & Tight do? They trained as dancers, but their work is more like cabaret, or dance-theatre sketches. Sometimes there's text, lip-syncing, imitations of real-life personalities; the absurd and the deadly serious live side-by-side; it can be hugely poignant and hugely silly, a belly laugh or a lump in the throat, a cry against climate change, or Hay-Gordon and Perry disco dancing dressed as Donald Trump in the shape of a bright orange pantomime horse talking out of its bottom. The pair's identity as queer performers is at the heart of Natural Behaviour, questioning what is deemed 'natural' in society and nature (tribute is paid to the 1970s study that found Californian seagulls nesting in female pairs, which shook up some of those ideas). They embody people, flora and fauna with outsider status, joined by guest performers including disabled dance groups Corali and Camberwell Incredibles. There are voiceover descriptions at the beginning of each section, describing the performers and what they're going to do. It's for inclusivity and accessibility, but is effective at giving everybody an in, directly connecting us to the dancers with a key to sometimes avant garde ideas, whether Annie Edwards dancing an endangered nightingale (and a curlew, swallow and white-tailed eagle) with neat feet and swiftly turning spirals; Perry as a blade of grass; or Jahmarley Bachelor in an ode to the dust in Quentin Crisp's flat. Two standout turns: charismatic Azara Meghie throwing in some hip-hop to her embodiment of James Baldwin, with his wise words played in voiceover, and Hay-Gordon's dance of remembrance set to Brahms. On theme, Hay-Gordon is one of most natural dancers you'll ever see; dancing is absolutely innate for him, and it's transfixing to watch him deeply inside the music. This is a show that's rich, thoughtful, ridiculous and quite wonderful. At Battersea Arts Centre, London, until 7 June then at the Lowry, Salford, 10-11 June

Meow Meow review – kamikaze cabaret combines clownish comedy and crooning
'I do think in 90 mins,' says the kamikaze cabaret performer Meow Meow, 'we can really make a difference.' It's a joke, clearly: in the face of encroaching tyranny and freedoms everywhere circumscribed, this blithering and eccentric diva seems unlikely to be much use. It's all she can do to get her show started, wheeling a piano effortfully onstage, replaying the whoops and cheers of bygone gigs and glories on a feeble Walkman. And yet, by the end of It's Come to This, Meow Meow – AKA Melissa Madden Gray – seems really to want to ask: what, in such ominous times, should the artist do? You can see why the question might concern her, engaged as she is with the songs of the Weimar era (Brecht and Weill's Ballad of the Soldier's Wife gets an outing here). Elsewhere, our big-haired, boundaries-free host twins chanson with clownish comedy in unique combination, now crooning Jacques Brel, now crawling cleavage-first over the shoulders of her crowd. As audience members are press-ganged on stage to fondle and manhandle its star, the show (with piano by Ben Dawson) can seem like an experiment to see how battily you can behave before the song you're singing is eclipsed entirely. The answer is: quite a lot, if your voice is as ravishing an instrument as Meow Meow. Occasionally, the shtick subsides and we get to really savour it. Equally often, that voice seeks attention for itself at the expense of the song. Latterly, the show devolves into worrisome political inquiry, as our host frets about the rise of nazism and Walter Benjamin's thoughts on the angel of history. Knowing what we know of the 1930s, what should we do now similar storm clouds are gathering? Her words 'I don't know' resounding like a siren, Meow Meow raises the alarm, but offers few answers. At Soho Theatre, London, until 24 May.

Generate Key Takeaways Originally appeared on E! Online It might be time for Luann de Lesseps to invite Kim Kardashian to join her cabaret show. The Real Housewives of New York City alum chimed in with her thoughts after many social media users compared the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star's 2025 Met Gala fashion to the 59-year-old's cabaret look. After one fan quipped on X (formerly Twitter) May 6, 'Kim paying homage to @CountessLuann was my favorite part of #MetGala last night,' Luann responded to the post with several laugh-crying emojis. The countess also shared multiple Instagram Stories of fans comparing Kim's look to hers, showing her hysterical reaction throughout. She even gave a shoutout to Philip Treacy, from whom she gets her cabaret hats. 'It's no secret I love my @philiptreacy hats,' Luann wrote on her Instagram Story May 6 alongside a side-by-side comparison of herself and Kim. 'After all darlings, he was the hatter for the Queen of England.' More from E! Online For her part, Kim—who was styled by Jahleel Weaver and donned a black leather dress by Chrome Hearts with a matching black hat by Stephen Jones Millinery, as well as multiple Moussaieff diamond necklaces across her chest with sparkling earrings to match—has not chimed in on the comparisons. Instead, she opted to name musicians Lenny Kravitz, Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis as inspirations for the look she chose to meet the 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style' theme's 'Tailored for You' dress code. Paul Zimmerman/Shutterstock;'Inspired by Lenny Kravitz, a modern dandy whose fluid, bold aesthetic, alongside icons like Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis, pioneered distinct and culturally significant aesthetics - shaping the way men dress for generations to come,' the SKIMS founder wrote in a May 6 Instagram post. 'Lenny's signature Chrome Hearts style perfectly captures the spirit of this theme - Black style, razor-sharp tailoring, and dandy tradition.' Read on to see all of the looks from the 2025 Met Gala.
