Alberta announced regulatory changes on Wednesday, saying they will support local liquor and cannabis businesses.
The changes include updating rules to allow small liquor companies to own, operate and sell their own products on party bikes, also known as pedal taverns or bike bars.
The province will also begin allowing so-called 'farm-gate' cannabis sales, where federally licensed cultivators and processors apply for a retail licence to sell directly from their operation.
'This move aligns Alberta with other provinces and gives consumers more access to homegrown cannabis products, while supporting licensed growers,' the province said in a press release.
According to the Alberta government, there are 752 licensed cannabis retail stores and more than 1,600 liquor retail stores in the province.
