This Two-Story Light Bar Was Made for a $1.3M Mercedes G-Wagon

The latest car news, reviews, and features. The Brabus XLP 800 6×6 Adventure is a caricature on wheels. Six wheels, in fact, as it is based on the Mercedes-AMG G63 6×6—a truck that is already so over the top it's nearly impossible to look at without laughing. Brabus, a company that prides itself on finding power and new places to put air vents on all kinds of high-end Benzes, has created quite a few fascinating accessories to make the monster Mercedes even more extreme than it comes from the factory. I've been scrolling through images of this thing with kind of a perverse fascination. It's hideous, but also a lot of fun to study. I mean, even the fender flares have vents. Brabus has been doing custom G-Wagens (properly spelled with an 'e') pickup trucks since 2020, but so far, I'm confident that this is the wackiest and most extreme yet. Brabus The roof rack and double-decker light bar, well, I won't call them useful (good luck getting your duffel bags down from there!), but they are particularly interesting. The rack itself is a pretty sleek design. I like the little airflow-directing piece in the middle. I wonder if it helps keep the light from affecting the radar cruise control and collision-avoidance camera at the top of the windshield. I kind of like the accommodations Brabus made to have the roll bar over the bed integrate neatly with the bedsides. It almost looks like it's held in place by giant cupholders—I've never seen a custom truck use quite the same idea. It's similar to the standard 6×6, but not exactly. Almost looks nautical. Brabus Swipe through some more of these pictures and call out more funky features in the comments. It's like a Where's Waldo hunt for madcap decorative pieces. Spec-wise, Brabus' new six-wheeled G claims 800 horsepower and about 737 lb-ft of torque. Still, due to its gigantic tires, portal axle setup, and monolithic air displacement, it trots from 0 to 62 mph in a relatively modest 5.8 seconds and is electronically limited to 130 mph. I would not want to be in this thing at triple-digit speeds at all—with 18.5 inches of ground clearance, the slightest swerve at highway speeds would be terrifying. I guess I don't really have to worry about that, though. I doubt any of my friends will be ponying up the 1,161,000 euros ($1,359,339.43) it takes to buy one of these. Got a tip? LeMan magazine editor held in Turkiye after Erdogan brands cartoon a ‘despicable provocation' insulting the Prophet

ISTANBUL, July 13 — The top editor of Turkey's satirical magazine LeMan has been arrested, media and lawyers said yesterday, the latest detention over accusations that the magazine had published a caricature of the Prophet Mohammed. Four magazine staffers were detained in early July over a cartoon that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has labelled a 'despicable provocation' and a 'hate crime,' warning its authors will have to answer for 'disrespecting the prophet.' The magazine and its staff have vigorously denied any link between an illustration published in the magazine, which features a person named Muhammed, and Islam's Prophet Mohammed. The name Muhammed, which has various spellings, is among the most popular names the Muslim faithful give their children. On Saturday the magazine's editor-in-chief, Aslan Ozdemir, was arrested as he flew back to Turkey from France, the MSLA human rights organisation wrote on X. Several media outlets, including the DHA agency and the T24 website, released images showing Ozdemir leaving the plane, handcuffed. The drawing in question shows two characters meeting in the sky above a city devastated by bombs. One is named Muhammed and the other Musa. Cartoonist Dogan Pehlevan said the drawing was meant 'to talk about peace' and condemned 'provocateurs.' 'I have been drawing in Turkey for many years. The first rule you learn is not to address religious issues and not to mock religion,' he told police in his deposition, according to the T24 news site. 'I have always adhered to this principle. I reject the accusations levelled against me,' he added. LeMan's editorial manager Tuncay Akgun told AFP that the drawing in question 'has nothing to do with the Prophet Mohammed. We would never take such a risk.' 'The character is a Muslim killed in Gaza. He was called Mohammed (like) over 200 million people in the Muslim world,' he said. — AFP

DAP right to urge PAS not to take itself so seriously

From Terence Netto DAP should be lauded for urging PAS to cultivate a sense of humour. For what is seen as an excess of this humour, DAP Youth chief Wong Kah Leong is being investigated by police for being responsible for a caricature of PAS Perak chief Razman Zakaria that is viewed by some quarters as offensive. This would be stretching things somewhat because caricatures are part of the rigamarole of cartoons which have long been recognised as part and parcel of political commentary. In fact, Perikatan Nasional – of which PAS is a component – has resorted to comic imagery during one of its election campaigns recently by depicting in cartoon form an image of DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook as a figure with sealed lips and bloated face. In tandem with this image of Loke, PN campaigners carried images of a mentally harassed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim plagued by a host of pressing issues. While the cartoonish images of Loke and Anwar were not really caustic – as was the depiction of Razman in the DAP caricature of him – it was within the range of what could be viewed in democratic discourse as fair comment. Democratic discourse is enhanced, not devalued, by the latitude it provides for this type of political commentary. Political discourse must not become so solemn that it does not allow resort to humour, either spoken or conveyed in cartoons. Humour and its superior mode, wit, helps its practitioners hold people and problems in balance. It can be a source of refreshment and perspective, and when employed well, becomes an essential part of the practitioner's apparatus of self-criticism. Because PAS takes its religious mission in deadly earnest, the party is averse to anything that is redolent of human comedy. Come to think of it, human comedy begins in the soul. Razman hopes Perak exco man not given ‘immunity' in caricature probe

Perak opposition leader Razman Zakaria (left) has demanded that DAP's Woo Kah Leong apologise over a caricature post deemed offensive. PETALING JAYA : Perak opposition leader Razman Zakaria has urged authorities not to grant any 'immunity' to state executive councillor Woo Kah Leong, who is under police investigation over a social media post featuring an allegedly offensive caricature of him. The Gunong Semanggol assemblyman said he had demanded an apology from Woo, but that none was forthcoming. Instead, he said DAP continued to defend its youth chief's actions. He warned that any failure to act could erode public support for the state government led by Umno and Pakatan Harapan (PH). 'To the Umno-led state government leaders in Perak, like it or not, this is the quality of an exco member from DAP,' he said in a statement. 'If you have any honour, just resign from the exco post because the people are always watching and will judge what happens as a result of such irresponsible behaviour. 'It's not impossible that the people will reject you over this issue.' Police recorded Woo's statement yesterday in connection with the investigation into the allegedly provocative social media post. Woo had posted the caricature on Facebook alongside a statement in April. It depicted Razman as a clown riding a unicycle on a tightrope, labelling the Perak PAS chief as 'raja fitnah' ('the king of slander'). This was believed to be in reference to the various instances in which Razman had apologised to PH leaders over various accusations he had made against them. The PAS man has demanded that Woo apologise openly for the 'provocative' posting. However, Woo has stood by his Facebook post, saying it was not a personal attack but satire. He also said the police report stifled freedom of speech.
