‘Love when brides get married looking very much like themselves': Charli XCX's wedding reveals wider trend

Singer Charli XCX wed musician George Daniel, and all anyone can talk about is what the star couple didn't do. When two famous people get married, it is usually a spectacle that exposes just how different celebrities are from the rest of us. It is a big reminder that they have personal assistants and endless budgets, while the rest of us have siblings who have to help out of family obligation and a firm budget that makes you feel physically sick when you go over it. Leave it to Charli XCX, though, to be ahead of the trend. She managed to pull-off a low-key celebrity wedding that came across as genuine, rather than a gimmick. It also looked like a normal wedding, like the kind your trendy friend would throw that is actually fun to attend. The couple got married at a town hall in Hackney, surrounded by fewer than 30 guests, and then held their reception at a local Italian eatery. Charli XCX and the 1975 bandmate were then seen hanging out at the restaurant and \ wandering the streets as husband and wife with all their guests. It is very on point for the singer, with a growing trend towards 'quiet weddings'. If you've never heard the phrase, you'll need to get on TikTok because the Gen Zers are loving it. The term basically just means a smaller wedding, less lavish and more barbecue vibes. The concept has naturally risen in popularity as cost of living pressures have increased. According to social media data website, Aura Point, there have been over 62,000 monthly searches from couples trying to find their local registry office. A recent survey found that 29 per cent of couples are opting for smaller, more intimate wedding ceremonies. Despite the wedding being more relaxed, Charli XCX was still wearing a high-fashion custom Vivienne Westwood gown but, otherwise, the whole shindig looked unnervingly normal. It didn't look glitzy, over-the-top or inaccessible. It looked low-key, but effortlessly cool, which is not a surprise seeing as Charli XCX made Brat summer happen. The bride even had time to jump on TikTok and joke that if her musician groom didn't cry when he saw her walking down the aisle, she'd be turning around. Perhaps what is most interesting is that the singer's chill wedding is garnering as much fanfare as, say, Tammy Hembrow's Bryon Bay extravaganza, when she married Matt Zukowski. Gen Zers online are loving it to the point where perhaps a giant wedding is now just another thing Millennials do that is considered cringe worthy by the younger generation. 'I don't know how to explain it but I really love when brides get married looking very much like themselves,' one praised. 'Charli getting married at Hackney Town Hall, in Viv Westwood, then coming out the front to take pics like an East London royal wedding,' another Gen Zer raved. 'At Town hall? How very Brat of her,' someone else observed. 'She knows to make every moment unforgettable,' another said.

How Celebrity Weddings Like Jeff Bezos & Lauren Sánchez' Set the Tone for Fashion Trends

When Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez hosted their wedding weekend in Venice, the internet couldn't get enough of the fashion. But beyond the viral headlines and couture gowns, their ultra-luxurious celebration underscored a bigger truth: celebrity weddings are driving real trends in the fashion world. From statement arrivals and pajama parties to experimental bridalwear, the looks we saw in Venice are already trickling down to retailers and wedding Pinterest boards around the globe. Celebrity weddings have long shaped fashion trends — not only for brides and grooms, but for everyday wear, red carpets, and runway collections. What A-listers wear to a wedding weekend can quickly influence what ends up in bridal salons, Pinterest mood boards, and next season's ready-to-wear. Let's break down exactly how. How One Wedding Weekend Can Set the Tone for a Year of Style: From ceremony couture to welcome party glam, here's how star-studded celebrations like Bezos and Sánchez' influence what designers create — and what we all end up wearing. 1. The Celebration as a Couture Moment Amazon's founder Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez get on a taxi boat at the Aman Hotel in Venice on June 26, 2025. Celebrities in superyachts sail into Venice this week for the three-day wedding party of Amazon tycoon Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez, despite irate locals who say the UNESCO city is no billionaire's playground. The tech magnate and journalist have reportedly invited about 200 guests to their multi-million dollar nuptials in the Italian city, which are expected to kick off on June 26 and end Saturday with a ceremony at a secret location. (Photo by Stefano Rellandini / AFP) Lauren Sánchez' wedding weekend was filled with a variety of couture fashion moments. One in particular — a floral-embroidered, sculptural Schiaparelli gown — being anything but traditional bridal. With structural florals and artful metallics, it signals a shift away from minimalist bridalwear and toward more architectural, expressive silhouettes. Much like Sofia Richie Grainge's influence brought quiet luxury bridalwear into the mainstream in 2023, Sánchez may be ushering in a new era of bold bridal weekend maximalism. 2. The Rise of the 'Wedding Weekend Wardrobe' US reality TV personality Kim Kardashian (L) and US socialite Khloe Kardashian leave the Gritti Palace Hotel on the wedding day of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos with Lauren Sanchez, in Venice on June 27, 2025. (Photo by Stefano Rellandini / AFP) Kylie and Kendall Jenner, Kim and Khloé Kardashian, Queen Rania of Jordan, Sydney Sweeney… nearly every guest at the Bezos wedding showed off multiple outfit changes over the weekend, and each was a statement. From airport arrivals in vintage Celine and Tom Ford to the Dolce Notte pajama-themed fête, the message was clear: wedding style is now a multi-day, high-fashion affair. This trend mirrors the real-world rise of curated wedding weekend looks (welcome party, rehearsal dinner, post-wedding brunch) — and it's influencing the rise of capsule wedding wardrobes and vacation-ready bridal collections. 3. Pajama Glam Is the New Eveningwear US TV host Oprah Winfrey (C) and US journalist Gayle King leave the Gritti Palace Hotel for a party on the third day of the wedding of US Amazon founder Jeff Bezos with Lauren Sanchez, in Venice on June 28, 2025. (Photo by Stefano Rellandini / AFP) One of the most talked-about moments from the Bezos bash? The Dolce Notte party, where guests like Oprah, Gayle King, and Sánchez herself showed up in sleepwear-inspired looks dripping in silk and sparkle. It's a luxe take on loungewear that taps into two major fashion movements: elevated comfort and fantasy escapism. Expect to see more bridal shower and bachelorette looks leaning into feathered robes, corset slips, and satin sets with heels. 4. Accessories Speak Volumes Lauren Sanchez leaves the Aman Hotel on her wedding day with Amazon's founder Jeff Bezos, in Venice on June 27, 2025. (Photo by Marco BERTORELLO / AFP) From Sánchez's Hermès headscarf and mini bag to Kendall's dramatic jewels (250 carats of Lorraine Schwartz Colombian Emeralds, to be exact) and Queen Rania's sleek clutch, accessories at this wedding were anything but afterthoughts. Wedding guests are embracing high-impact, editorial-worthy extras — and designers are noticing. Headscarves, statement earrings, vintage-style gloves, and coordinated mini bags are being revived not just for special occasions, but for weddings and formalwear at large. 5. From the Aisle to the Algorithm @ My best-dressed guest at Jeff Bezos's wedding? Kris Jenner. I also share my thoughts on what Kendall, Kylie, Khloé, and Kim wore to the wedding in Venice, Italy today. Do you agree?! Lmk in the comments! @Kris @Kendall Jenner #laurensanchez #jeffbezoswedding #weddingguestdress ♬ original sound – Erin Fitzpatrick What sets today's celebrity weddings apart is how instantly they ripple through social media. Images from the Bezos wedding flooded TikTok and Instagram within hours, sparking debates over the best-dressed guests and influencing trend forecasts before the couple even said 'I do.' The fashion industry watches these moments closely, not only for style cues but to gauge audience reactions in real time — turning weddings into de facto focus groups for future collections. Why It Matters: When a high-profile couple like Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez gathers the world's most stylish people in one place, it becomes more than a wedding — it's a cultural barometer. From trending silhouettes to must-have designers, these moments shape the fashion narrative for months (if not years) to come. GRAZIA' s Take: Whether you're planning a wedding, attending one, or just looking for your next outfit inspo, the Bezos wedding offered a masterclass in fashion forecasting. And if history's any indication, what we saw in Venice will soon be everywhere — from runways to wedding registries. Curious how these styles actually played out in Venice? What happened to Girl Power? Geri Halliwell and Mel C fail to acknowledge Mel B's wedding as they skip nuptials - while Victoria Beckham shares tribute despite absence and Emma Bunton is the only Spice Girl to attend

Geri Halliwell and Mel C have so far failed to acknowledge their Spice Girl's bandmate Mel B 's star-studded wedding on Saturday. The pair were both notably absent as Mel said 'I do' to her fiance Rory McPhee at St Paul's Cathedral in London in front of a string of very A-list guests. In fact, Emma Bunton was the only Spice Girl to attend as Victoria Beckham also missed the ceremony - though she shared some sweet words online despite her absence. Ginger Spice Geri, 52, has so far not mentioned the wedding on her social media while Sporty Spice Mel C, 51, has also remained silent publicly on the big day. But Posh, 51, took to Instagram to share a sweet black and white throwback of herself and the bride with bandmates Geri, Mel C and Emma. She captioned the snap: 'Congratulations @officalmelb @rorymcphee on your special day! I couldn't be more excited for you both and wish you a lifetime of happiness! kisses xx' Geri and Mel C were both notably absent as Mel B said 'I do' to her fiance Rory McPhee at St Paul's Cathedral in London in front of a string of very A-list guests Hours earlier, Victoria had also posted another tribute to the couple on Friday with a photograph of herself and Mel looking glamorous together at a recent event. She gushed in a caption: 'Sending love to you @officialmelb! @rorymcphee is a very lucky man! xx' Ahead of the wedding, sources told the Mail that there was no bad blood between Victoria and Mel but was simply a scheduling conflict. They said: 'Victoria has long standing plans out of the country and she simply can't be there. 'She adores Mel, they get on really well despite their paths going in opposite directions. It's a real shame. 'There is no issue between them, they haven't fallen out. It's just one of those things.' As for Geri, she and Mel have a tempestuous relationship and at times have struggled to be in the same room without there being animosity. The two women went to war after Mel B revealed that she had an intimate relationship with Geri when the band was starting out while she was being interviewed for Piers Morgan's Life Stories programme. Geri was said to have been deeply upset by the bombshell revelation in 2019, for which Mel has apparently never apologised. Sources also say that Geri's husband Christian Horner was 'mortified' about Mel's claims. Though the other Spice Girls were absent, Emma was in attendance and looked gorgeous in a stylish pink dress as she stepped out to support Mel B. Emma was accompanied by husband Jade Jones and their son Beau, 17, with both men looking dapper for the big day. After heading out of the cathedral, Baby Spice kindly stopped and signed her autograph for an eager fan. Mel walked down the aisle for the third time in front of her celebrity friends on Saturday afternoon as she finally became Mrs McPhee. She looked every inch the blushing bride in a pearl-adorned white gown as she married Rory during the stunning ceremony. Her gown featured a sheer illusion design adorned with white pearls and a ruched bodice, with the singer adding a flowing veil to her bridal look. Meanwhile, groom Rory, 37, opted for traditional Scottish attire complete with a red and green tartan kilt. Mel arrived in a white Bentley to her wedding and flashed a radiant smile and adjusted her veil as she prepared to head inside. Meanwhile, Mel's children Phoenix Chi, Madison and Angel Iris were all smiles as they arrived to see their mother walk down the aisle. Phoenix, 26, looked lovely in a blue silk dress and coordinating fascinator, and was accompanied by partner AJ Anderson. Sibling Angel, 18, who now identifies as a male, looked smart in a black suit, while sister Madison, 13, caught the eye in a bright pink dress and matching head piece. Celebrities in attendance include TV presenters Gaby Roslin and Angellica Bell, comedians Katherine Ryan and Alan Carr. Leigh Francis, Cara Delevingne as well as the Spice Girls' former manager Simon Fueller were pictured at the ceremony. Mel was able to get married at St Paul's Cathedral because of her OBE, which she got in 2022 for her services to charitable causes and vulnerable women, especially Woman's Aid. It is the third time that Mel said 'I do' after first marrying Dutch backing dancer Jimmy Gulzar in 1998. And when she wed Stephen Belafonte in 2007, they eloped to Las Vegas before holding a vow renewal in Egypt the following year. Mel and Stephen separated in 2016 when she accused him of emotional and physical abuse, which he has always denied. His lawyers said that during the marriage they spent her £50million fortune. Mel grew close to Rory after the breakdown of her marriage to Stephen. Last year, she said: 'He's a family friend, great hairdresser... when I went back to England, he would come over and give me hair treatments... 'And as he was nurturing my curls back, I guess he was nurturing my trust and belief in a relationship.'

Famous faces including former Spice Girl Emma Bunton attend wedding of Mel B

Spice Girls star Emma Bunton was among celebrities who descended on St Paul's Cathedral to celebrate the wedding of her former bandmate Mel B. The 50-year-old singer, whose full name is Melanie Brown, announced her engagement to hairdresser Rory McPhee in October 2022. Ahead of the wedding Mel B worked closely with Evelie Bridal and Josephine Scott to design her luxury georgette crepe gown. Celebrity faces were spotted arriving at the ceremony on Saturday afternoon, including Bunton, known as Baby Spice, along with her partner Jade Jones and son Beau. Model Daisy Lowe and her husband Jordan Saul were also seen arriving at the ceremony along with comedians Tom Allen and Katherine Ryan. Comedian and TV star Leigh Francis, who previously had Mel B as a team captain on his comedy panel series Celebrity Juice, also attended the wedding. Caroline Black, owner of Evelie Bridal, told the PA news agency: 'For her look at St Paul's Cathedral, Melanie B wanted a bespoke gown that embodies strength, sensuality, and timeless glamour.' The dress was described by Ms Black as a 'luxury georgette crepe gown with a sculpted corset bodice' which features 'intricate draping that hugs the silhouette and flows into a dramatic, sweeping train'. It also has a 'sheer illusion detachable jacket, hand-embellished with pearl constellations' which has been described as creating a high-neck, long-sleeve effect that frames her shoulders and adds 'ethereal elegance to complement the ceremony and honour St Paul's etiquette'. Mel B also wore a cathedral-length veil which was embroidered with scattered pearls to complete the look. Speaking about the process of styling Mel B for her wedding day, Ms Black described it as 'an honour' and 'nothing short of extraordinary'. She said: 'Helping a real Spice Girl choose her wedding dress – what could possibly top that? 'But what's truly made this experience so meaningful is getting to know Mel as just Mel, not the icon, but the woman. 'It's been such an honour.' Ms Scott said: 'Designing this gown for Mel was about capturing her fearless spirit and softness all in one look. 'She's iconic, powerful, and radiant – and this dress had to be worthy of that. 'Every detail was chosen to honour her strength and sensuality, while celebrating the woman and the love story beneath the girl power.' Mel B was previously married to Stephen Belafonte until she filed for divorce in 2017 following allegations of abuse. They have a daughter, Madison Brown Belafonte. Mel B also has two daughters, Phoenix Chi Gulzar and Angel Iris Murphy Brown, from two previous relationships.
