Mother of missing teen Pheobe Bishop speaks out as search continues around Bundaberg two weeks after she vanished
The devastated mother of missing teen Pheobe Bishop has spoken out and said she's happy to to be under fire as long as Australia keeps talking about her daughter. Kylie Johnson has been actively promoting the search campaign to find her daughter since the 17-year-old disappeared from the Bundaberg area, in Central Queensland, on 15 May. Every day, Johnson has been sharing posts on social media to raise awareness about the case, some of which have drawn nasty comments from trolls. As the search for her daughter entered its 15th day, Johnson penned a new post urging her supporters to not be angry at critics, explaining that they, too, contribute to the efforts to bring her daughter home. 'My posts aren't public to defend myself or react to negative comments. In fact negative comments also draw conversations and that's what WE as a FAMILY need to bring Phee home,' she wrote on Friday. 'Hell I will take any conversation if it has My BABY walking down our driveway or calling any of us as a family… 'So please don't be mad at the Trolls. They have a roll (sic) to play just like the amazing people who honestly just want our Pheobe home.' Police say Bishop was last seen about 8.30am on May 15 at Airport Dr in Bundaberg, Queensland, as reported to them by her housemates. The teenager was planning to fly to Perth to spend time with a boyfriend, but never entered the terminal or checked in for her flight. Bishop had been living with couple Tanika Bromley and James Wood in a home in nearby Gin Gin. Six days after she vanished, detectives revealed they are treating the case as 'suspicious' and set up two crimes scenes - one in Bromley's car and the other at the Gin Gin property. The grey Hyundai ix35 was later released after police examined the vehicle and seized items. Police have repeatedly said Wood and Bromley have been co-operative in the investigation and 7NEWS does not suggest either party is involved in Bishop's disappearance. A six-day search of the dense scrub and creek beds at Good Night National Park - involving police, firefighters, and SES crews - was suspended on Wednesday. Police said the greater Gin Gin area would remain a focus of their investigation and searches would recommence as needed and more information came to light. 'Investigations are ongoing and police are continuing to run out several lines of enquiry,' police said. Anyone with information, vision or sightings of the grey Hyundai ix35 between May 15 to 18 in the greater Gin Gin area is urged to contact police. Pheobe is described as about 180 centimetres tall, with a pale complexion, long dyed red hair, and hazel eyes.

Avinash Sable, Tejaswin Shankar in Asian Athletics squad; No Neeraj Chopra
Commonwealth Games medallist Avinash Sable was on Friday named in the 59-member Indian squad for the Asian Athletics Championships to be held at Gumi, South Korea, next month. Apart from the steeplechaser, another notable inclusion in the squad is Tejaswin Shankar, the Asian Games silver medallist in the decathlon. However, Dev Meena, the pole vaulter who rewrote his own national record, missed the bus. He had cleared 5.35 metres, but the Asian Championships qualifying standard set by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) was 5.51m. 'I felt the federation should have brought it (qualifying mark) down a bit, about 10 centimetres, so I can go and compete,' Meena said. 'But they know best. I know I will go much higher.' Annu Rani, the national record holder in women's javelin, was selected despite not meeting the qualifying standard at the Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships in Kochi. The AFI had made it mandatory for athletes to meet the qualifying standards in their respective events at the Federation Cup. However, AFI president Bahadur Singh Sagoo had said on Thursday that the selection committee would have the final say on whether those who had met the standards in other competitions this year would be considered. Annu registered a best throw of 56.66m at the Federation Cup but had breached the qualifying standard of 58 metres with a throw of 58.82m at the Indian Open Throws Competition in Mumbai in March. Animesh Kujur, who set a national record in the 200m, was part of the squad. Kujur has also been named in the 4x100m men's relay squad. World Champion Neeraj Chopra, set to participate in the Doha Diamond League on May 16, wasn't named in the squad. The Olympic silver medallist last participated in the Asian Championships in 2017. The ‘true face' of Lucy, humanity's most famous ancestor
The true face of the tiny primate 'Lucy', who proved that our early human relatives walked on two legs 3 million years ago, has been revealed. The 3.5ft skeleton, named after the Beatles song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, was discovered in Ethiopia by Donald Johanson, an American palaeoanthropologist, in 1975. She belonged to the Australopithecus afarensis species and was the most intact early hominin ever found, which helped prove that our human ancestors walked on two legs before developing large brains. Before her discovery, many people had hypothesised that a larger brain was needed to allow the dexterity needed for upright walking. Now, an international team including Cicero Moraes, a world leader in forensic facial reconstruction software, has reconstructed her face using scans of her skull, coupled with soft tissue data from chimpanzees, who have a similar brain size to the Australopithecus afarensis. 'Seeing Lucy's face is like glimpsing at a bridge to the distant past, offering a visual connection to human evolution,' said Mr Moraes. 'The reconstruction, blending science and art, allows us to imagine what she might have looked like 3.2 million years ago, enriching both public and scientific understanding of our ancestors. 'It's a reflection of technological progress that makes an extinct being tangible.' Details like hair and skin colour were determined based on prior studies related to the Pliocene environment in which she lived. The final result is something not quite ape and not yet human, similar to modern great apes but with some unique features, such as a flatter face and a less protruding jaw. 'It has a less pronounced brow ridge than in chimpanzees, though still distinct from modern humans,' added Mr Moraes. 'The artistic version shows dark skin and hair, inspired by palaeoanthropological descriptions suggesting adaptation to the hot Ethiopian environment of 3.2 million years ago.' He added: 'The team believes that, despite the limitations of the cranial fragments, it offers an anatomically coherent representation of a female Australopithecus afarensis.' Lucy's body also shows elements of both ape and human. Her upper torso shows she was adapted to living in trees, but her lower body showed she also walked on two legs. Her brain, however, is very different to modern humans. The inner surface of her skull has a volume of about 391 cubic centimetres – similar to that of chimpanzees and much smaller than the roughly 1,350 cubic centimetres of modern humans. It indicates that her brain organisation was closer to that of other primates. Lucy is thought to have died at between 12 and 18 years of age – adulthood for her species – and may have fallen out of a tree. Her fossilised bones will go on display in Europe for the first time ever this summer at Prague's National Museum in August. The research has been submitted to a journal for peer review.

Spring snowstorm brings school and highway closures to southern Manitoba
Social Sharing Blowing and drifting snow, as well as poor visibility, has caused several schools and parts of highways across southern Manitoba to be closed. The region had an abrupt return to winter on Thursday afternoon, as an Alberta Clipper moved into the western part of the province and spread across it through the day. A snowfall warning from Environment Canada remains in place as 15 to 25 centimetres is still expected in some areas on Friday. The snow will be heavy at times before tapering off through the morning hours, according to the weather agency. As a result of the conditions, all schools are closed for the day in the following divisions: Lakeshore. Lord Selkirk. Sunrise. Colony schools are closed in the Rolling River School Division but all community schools are open. The Franco-Manitoban School Division has two school closures — École Jours de Plaine in Laurier and L'École Aurèle Lemoine in St. Laurent. Bus service is cancelled for École Saint-Lazare and École Saint-Georges but the schools are open for classes. The highway closures mostly impact the western area of the province but many others across the entire south, including the Trans-Canada Highway and the Perimeter Highway surrounding Winnipeg, are partly-covered.
