Province to mark 120 years of ‘history and growth' on Aug. 31 for Alberta Day
The province is celebrating more than a century of its existence in Canada with a full-day celebration in Alberta's two biggest cities on Aug. 31.
Alberta was established as a province on Sept. 1, 1905, marking 120 years of 'history and growth.'
'It will be an unforgettable day celebrating this major milestone, and the people and traditions that have shaped this amazing province and Alberta's rich history within Canada,' said Arts, Culture and Status of Women Minister Tanya Fir in a news release on Monday.
To celebrate the milestone, there will be free public celebrations happening on the legislature grounds in Edmonton and Heritage Park in Calgary on Aug. 31 at 11 a.m.
Visitors can expect a concert with Edmonton headliner The Prairie States and Calgary headlines Jake Matthews, a made-in-Alberta marketplace, cultural workshops and kid friendly activities and a drone show.
There are 40 other municipalities hosting Alberta Day celebrations for the next month.
