'I'm fighting for my place'
Southampton defender Nathan Wood said he is "fighting for his place" in Saints' Championship line-up after their 1-0 victory over Northampton Town in the Carabao Cup. The 23-year-old was on the bench for Southampton's dramatic 2-1 opening-day win against Wrexham, but made the starting XI and helped to keep a clean sheet against the Cobblers. "I feel fit, I'm happy to be injury free," Wood told BBC Radio Solent. "Now I'm just fighting for my place. We've got plenty of talent in the squad. We've got two XIs that are good, that can play in the Championship week-in, week-out. "It's about being consistent every day - and playing on nights like this, giving it everything I can. That's all I can do." Wood made 11 Premier League appearances for the Saints last season, including an eight-game run in December and January.

Italy Star The High Point For Strong Inter Milan Backline Vs River Plate
Italy Star The High Point For Strong Inter Milan Backline Vs River Plate Alessandro Bastoni was the key figure in a watertight Inter Milan backline in their Club World Cup win over River Plate. Today's print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. Inter Milan kept a priceless clean sheet against River Plate. Advertisement Despite the Argentine giants probing for openings all match long with their pace, physicality, and some intelligent forward balls, Inter held firm around their penalty area. This proved a key platform for Inter to book their place in the round of sixteen. They will face Brazilian team Fluminense this Monday. But it was Alessandro Bastoni who really did more than his share in keeping the ball out of Inter's goal. The Italian international made a sequence of outstanding challenges. These were both around his own area, and stepping into midfield to defend on the front foot.

'We score with 11 and we defend with 11'
Bart Verbruggen praised Brighton's teamwork in their impressive victory over goalkeeper told BBC Radio Sussex: "It is massive for us. We know where we are in the table and what part of the season we are in so every point is important."We are trying to force each other to start quick and stay on the front foot. I still think we can improve and do things better but at this stage it is just about getting points."We score with 11 and we defend with 11 and that is a big strength of this team. If you see how much effort attacking players put into defending, reacting when we lose the ball and transitions, then it is a massive reason we kept a clean sheet."We have to focus on ourselves and try to win every game. But first it is about winning in every training session."Listen to the full interview on BBC Sounds
