Alexandra, Khayelitsha, and Mitchell's Plain get water, music, and sport

At Betway, giving back isn't a side project – it's part of who we are. Through the Betway Cares Foundation, we've made it our mission to uplift communities, empower individuals, and create real, lasting change across South Africa and the African continent. Whether it's through sport development, education, healthcare, or grassroots initiatives, the Betway Cares Foundation is driven by one simple belief: that everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive, and that responsible gaming is the foundation of a sustainable and ethical entertainment industry. But our responsibility doesn't stop at the screen. As one of South Africa's leading licensed gaming operators, we're deeply committed to the well-being of our players, our communities, and the broader South African economy. That means investing in tools that keep players safe and giving back in ways that help the nation thrive, beyond the screen and from the ground up. A bold vision of sustainable support The Betway Cares Foundation's core pillars include education, health, sport development, community upliftment, and the creative and cultural industries. Community is at the heart of the Foundation's mission, and why so many projects focus on communities, teams, and village centres. There are parts of South Africa and the continent in dire need of support and relief, and that's where the Foundation comes in. Some of the Betway Cares Foundation's biggest projects to date include a groundbreaking partnership with Khaltsa Cycles; a donation to the Mitchell's Plain Music Academy that was music to that community's ears; a brand-new set of wheels for Ntsika Ye Sizwesethu, a dynamic NGO based in Johannesburg's Alexandra Township, whose inspiring work is shaping a better future for thousands; and three water projects that deliver fresh, potable water to far-flung villages across Mpumalanga and Kwa-Zulu Natal. From learnership programmes for young girls and a coaching academy for former sports stars to share their skills, to soccer kits for underprivileged kids and supporting grassroots initiatives like a revitalised car wash in Meadowlands, Soweto, the Foundation is working hard at becoming a force for good in South Africa and beyond. A case study in caring In the years since its inception, the Betway Cares Foundation has dedicated support and resources to community upliftment. Some of the communities that have directly benefited from the Foundation's work include Alexandra Township in Gauteng (Ntsika Ye Sizwesethu), Mitchell's Plain (the Mitchell's Plain Music Academy), Khayelitsha (Khaltsa Cycles), Matshemhlophe village in KwaZulu-Natal (one of three water projects), and the Clara Bagdadi village outside of Hoedspruit, Mpumalanga (a second water project). Over 8,000 residents in two remote villages now have access to clean, safe, and convenient drinking water. These projects, which we will expand on in the coming weeks, and the other good work Betway Cares does across South Africa and the rest of the continent, are a reminder that real impact happens when purpose meets action. As we continue to grow our footprint across South Africa and the continent, we remain committed to building up communities, unlocking potential, and lighting the way for a bright, more inclusive future.

Charity is not a privilege, it's an obligation at LottoStar

At LottoStar, they go beyond life-changing wins after betting on sports games – they believe in making a real difference. Their greatest victories are the ones that uplift lives, restore dignity and ignite hope across their communities. With LottoStar's purpose-driven campaigns and heartfelt initiatives, they've been able to uplift communities and support vital causes across the country. Whether in partnership with leading radio stations or through their dedicated foundation, The Star Foundation, every effort reflects their mission to make a difference. Here's how your support helped them bring that mission to life over the past three months: Save7 – when one life ends, seven more begin Through the Money Madness competition with KFM, LottoStar bettors helped raise R1 067 500 for Save7, an organisation that is redefining the landscape of organ donation in South Africa. Save7 doesn't just raise awareness – it transforms it into action. Through innovative initiatives like the Time Capsule, a voice note that allows individuals to leave heartfelt messages for their loved ones about their wishes to be donors, Save7 humanizes the donor journey and gives families peace of mind. The funds raised went towards the LifePod, a dedicated ICU designed for organ donors. This specialised unit provides essential care in the final moments, ensuring that one life can go on to save up to seven others. Because of you, more lives will be saved, more and more futures restored. Good Morning Angels – from compassion to cure During LottoStar's Fortune Frenzy competition with Jacaranda FM, their bettors helped raise R1 024 000 for Good Morning Angels, a Jacaranda FM initiative that has long been a lifeline for South Africans in crisis. From individuals facing hardship to families navigating trauma and communities in need of urgent help, Good Morning Angels has been a consistent source of relief and resilience. R697 000 of the money raised enabled the purchase of a cutting-edge laser treatment machine for the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital, offering care to young burn victims. The remaining funds are being channeled into ongoing projects supported by Good Morning Angels, continuing the cycle of care and compassion across the nation. These stories aren't just about aid. They're about recovery, dignity, and renewed hope. Groote Schuur hospital – emergency care without delay One of the most urgent needs facing public hospitals in South Africa is access to emergency surgical care. In response, LottoStar donated R1,8 million to Groote Schuur Hospital's Emergency Fund for Emergency Surgery (EFES). This project addresses the hospital's overburdened emergency surgery schedule. Many patients admitted are victims of violence, severe trauma, or road accidents. Although the hospital is deeply committed to providing urgent care, resource constraints often cause delays – delays that can cost lives. Through LottoStar's donation, Groote Schuur will be able to run 70 additional emergency theatre lists over the next 12 months, with a focus on peak periods such as weekends and public holidays when trauma admissions surge. The Star Foundation – built on the belief that they rise by lifting others At the heart of all their initiatives lies The Star Foundation, LottoStar's dedicated platform for social impact. It's through this foundation that they identify urgent needs, partner with purpose-led organisations and drive measurable change across South Africa. From healthcare and education to food security and emergency relief, The Star Foundation is guided by one principle: when they uplift others, they uplift the nation. None of this would be possible without the support of those who bet on their site. To their partners, bettors, and communities: thank you for believing in the power of purpose. Thank you for helping them turn bets into giving and winnings into something far more meaningful. LottoStar – charity is a privilege, not an obligation.

Isuzu Foundation reaffirms community upliftment commitment with R278,000 donation

With each stride, swim and cycle, the partnership between Isuzu and Ironman4theKidz continues to build athletic endurance and stronger, more resilient communities. The Isuzu Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to uplifting SA communities with a donation of R278,250 — matching the funds raised through the entry fees of athletes who participated in the 2025 Ironman 70.3 Durban. The contribution forms part of a broader effort to support the Ironman4theKidz Charity Trust, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year with an ambitious R5m fundraising goal. Proceeds from the Durban leg of the prestigious triathlon series will benefit child-focused organisations such as Operation Bobbi Bear, Likhon'ithemba and the Durban Child and Youth Care Centre, each playing a vital role in supporting vulnerable children in the region. Isuzu Motors SA department executive for business enablement Alastair Hodgson highlighted the broader mission of the initiative. 'Through this partnership, we have not only raised funds but built lasting relationships with organisations doing crucial work. 'Our role is to help create a safer, more hopeful future for the children of this region,' he said. The donation is part of an ongoing collaboration between Isuzu Motors SA and its dealer network, which jointly operate under the Isuzu Foundation. The foundation channels proceeds from the sale of every Isuzu vehicle towards community upliftment initiatives, particularly those focused on education, wellness and social development. The latest handover follows successful fundraising drives at previous events, including the Isuzu Ironman African Championship and Ironman 5150 Nelson Mandela Bay, where almost R350,000 was raised. Since aligning with the Ironman4theKidz initiative in June 2022, the Isuzu Foundation has donated more than R1.6m to registered nonprofits across SA in areas that host Ironman triathlon events. Isuzu Foundation chair Marvan van Zyl said it remained steadfast in its purpose. 'We are proud to continue championing causes that strengthen communities and protect the most vulnerable among us. 'This year's efforts reaffirm our long-term commitment to driving change in our communities.' The Herald
