Man arrested after allegedly escaping Brisbane correctional centre, committing crime spree

A man has been charged after allegedly committing a crime spree in Brisbane's southern suburbs while on the run from a correctional centre. Police were called to Tristania Way in Mount Gravatt East shortly after 2am Sunday after reports a stolen Mercedes Benz sedan crashed into several parked vehicles. Upon arrival, witnesses told police they saw the man flee the scene on foot. The damaged sedan was found at the scene. Police allege the man later went to a fast food restaurant and assaulted a ride share driver in the car park, attempting to steal his vehicle. The man was stopped by a member of the public. About 2.40am, police were called to Pine Mountain Rd after reports the same man broke into several homes and ransacked some in an attempt to steal keys. Police allege the man assaulted the occupant of one of the houses during the crime spree. The 38-year-old was arrested in the rear courtyard of a property on Pine Mountain Rd. 'The Mercedes was stolen from a Bell St address at Kangaroo Point on June 1,' a Queensland Police statement read. It will also be alleged the man had been wanted by police after absconding from the Palen Creek Low Custody Correctional Centre about 100km south of Brisbane on May 27. He has been charged with four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, three counts of enter dwelling with intent, two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, two counts of robbery, one count each of receiving tainted property, fail to remain at the scene of an accident and drive with court cancelled driver's license. Police expect more charges to be laid at a later date.

Man dragged onto Bagot road during violent car theft in Darwin

Two teenagers have been charged with aggravated robbery after one of the alleged offenders dragged a man onto a main Darwin road before the pair stole his vehicle. Police alleged the 14-year-old boy and 17-year-old girl went on to use the stolen vehicle in a series of ram raids across the city in the early hours of Saturday morning. The pair have received more than 20 charges combined, including breach of bail, aggravated robbery, property damage and drink driving. In a statement, NT police said at the time of the theft a warrant was out for the arrest of the teenage boy after he "allegedly fled the courts and removed his electronic monitoring device prior to his court appearance" the day prior. Police said the incident began at around 1:35am on Saturday morning, when the two teenagers allegedly approached the man at the BP petrol station on Bagot Road in Coconut Grove. "The male youth allegedly grabbed the victim from behind and demanded his vehicle keys before a struggle ensued," the statement read. It is alleged the teenagers then threatened the man with a knife, before he handed over his keys and the pair drove off in his Toyota Camry. The vehicle was then allegedly used in a crime spree across Darwin, causing damage to multiple businesses. "A short time later, the stolen Toyota Camry was allegedly used to ram through fire escape doors at a business in Eaton, where the offenders entered the premises and stole a quantity of alcohol," police said. Police said the pair then drove to the Darwin Waterfront precinct, where they allegedly ram raided a convenience store and stole cigarettes, before fleeing the scene. Two hours after the pair allegedly stole the car, the Strike Force Trident and Dog Operations Unit spotted the vehicle travelling through Coconut Grove and attempted to apprehend it, but the vehicle did not stop. Police chased the car through Millner and back into Coconut Grove, where the teenagers allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. "A short foot pursuit was initiated, and both youths were apprehended without further incident," police said. Both teenagers are set to face Darwin Local Court on Monday.

Twisted act of career criminal after shooting dead beautiful North Carolina college girl

The career criminal charged with killing a young aspiring teacher went on a 'shopping spree' after shooting her dead. Alexander Dickey, 30, was arrested on May 4 after going on a violent rampage that included theft, grand larceny, arson and murder. Police said Dickey kicked off his crime spree by breaking into a home on Cypress Street in Columbia, South Carolina, and killing 22-year-old Logan Federico. The beautiful college student was found dead in her friend's home after visiting from Waxhaw, North Carolina, for the weekend. Federico and her friends were out the night before on May 2 and returned home to Cypress Street before 3:00 a.m., according to the Columbia Police Department. Dickey allegedly first broke into another home on the residential neighborhood street and stole several items, including a gun, which cops say he used to shoot Federico in the chest as he broke into her friend's home shortly after. He stole wallets and credit cards from the scene and then fled in a stolen car, investigators claim. 'Dickey drives away in the stolen vehicle to West Columbia and goes on (what's best described as) a shopping spree with the stolen credit and debit cards at several stores,' said Columbia Police. 'Dickey then drives to Saluda County and attempts to make additional fraudulent purchases. The stolen vehicle will not start, leaving Dickey seemingly stranded.' A multi-agency manhunt including the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), the Columbia Police Department and the Lexington County Sheriff's Office was launched to track down the alleged killer. Dickey was not caught for almost two days after Federico's body was found, until he was caught setting fire to another home in Gaston, during the evening of May 4. He allegedly forced his way into the home before a tense standoff with cops outside the home led him to set the property on fire. Authorities said Dickey is known as a repeat violent offender with past convictions, including for assault, and now faces a slew of charges, including murder and robbery, related to his alleged multi-day spree. Dickey was initially hospitalized after the house fire before he was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center. He is scheduled to appear at the Columbia Municipal Court at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday for a bond hearing, reported WIS. Tributes poured in for Federico as she was identified as the victim of the home invasion shooting, with her father Steven holding a heartbreaking press conference. As he fought back tears, he said: 'I am Logan Federico's father, better known as dad or her hero. Unfortunately, that day, I could not be her hero.' He described his daughter as a hard-working and loving 22-year-old who supported her education by working two jobs. 'She will live on forever, maybe not physically; she will touch people and protect over people,' he said. 'Somehow she will have a huge, huge decision about what kids life and looking over them. She became goal-oriented and worked hard.' Federico's family launched a GoFundMe to help raise money to cover funeral expenses. 'She was taken from us far too soon, but not without leaving a legacy of laughter, light, and love,' the fundraiser said. 'A big personality in every room, Logan was fun, fierce, and full of heart—just like her favorite Taylor Swift anthem, '22' (which she insisted was written just for her). 'Logan may be gone, but her spirit—bold, brilliant, and unforgettable—will always live on.'
