Robber opens fire in Brooklyn post office, nobody struck
A crook opened fire when he tried to rob a Brooklyn post office Monday afternoon, police said.
Nobody was struck when the robber fired off multiple rounds in the Midwood branch of the U.S. Postal Service on Coney Island Ave. near Avenue I at about 1:10 p.m., cops said.
The man, who was wearing a blue helmet and blue backpack, entered the post office and put a gun to the back of a 37-year-old woman who was the only customer inside, police sources said. He then demanded money from the teller, but the teller refused to give the crook any cash.
The crook fired off a shot at the door of the post office before fleeing on a black moped heading north on Coney Island Ave.
Police recovered ballistics from the scene as they continue to investigate.
About 12 minutes later, the crook showed up at a Pay-O-Matic check cashing service on Utica Ave. and Glenwood Road in East Flatbush, where he was again unsuccessful trying to rob the place. As he looked to flee the scene, he crashed his moped outside the Pay-O-Matic, sources said.
Cops took him into custody shortly after the second incident. Charges against him were pending.
