One person killed, another injured in crash on Route 8 in Naugatuck
A man was killed and a woman was injured on Thursday when they were struck by a pickup truck on Route 8 in Naugatuck as they were standing outside of a vehicle following a prior crash. The collision was reported just before 2 p.m. on Route 8 South where a 2012 Mercedes Benz CLS 550 was stopped in the right shoulder just past the Exit 26 off-ramp, according to Connecticut State Police. The Benz was facing north after having just been involved in a collision. A 37-year-old Hamden man driving a 2020 Ford F450 Super Duty owned by an East Haven towing company was approaching the area as he lost control of the vehicle and it began spinning, state police said. The truck hit a concrete traffic barrier in the median and struck 45-year-old Jimmy Bedard of Wolcott, according to state police. A 46-year-old Shelton woman and the Mercedes were also struck. State police said Bedard suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was taken in an ambulance to Waterbury Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries, according to state police. The driver of the Ford did not report any injuries. State police: 78-year-old woman airlifted to hospital after being hit by SUV in Sterling
A pedestrian was airlifted to a Rhode Island hospital after being struck by an SUV in Sterling on Tuesday. The crash was reported just after 12:15 p.m. on Route 14A in the area of Newport Road where a 2011 Ford Explorer traveling east hit a 78-year-old Sterling woman who was attempting to cross the road, according to Connecticut State Police. The pedestrian, state police said, suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was transported aboard Life Star to Rhode Island Hospital. Her condition was not immediately clear. According to state police, the driver of the Explorer, a 45-year-old Sterling woman, did not report any injuries. The crash remains under investigation. Woman suffers life-threatening injuries in rollover crash in Hebron
A woman was seriously injured in a rollover crash in Hebron on Sunday that also injured one other person. The crash occurred on Route 85 in the area of Martin Road just before 5 p.m. when a 64-year-old Hebron woman traveling south in a 2011 Nissan Pathfinder crossed the yellow center lines while negotiating a left curve in the road, according to Connecticut State Police. The Pathfinder struck the driver's side of a Ford E-350 Super Duty van that was being driven in the opposite direction, state police said. The collision caused the van to spin off the road and the Pathfinder to roll over. The driver of the Pathfinder was taken to Hartford Hospital for serious injuries that were believed to be life-threatening, according to state police. The van driver, a 38-year-old Coventry man, was taken to Windham Hospital for minor injuries. The crash remains under investigation. Man dead after BMW was struck by tractor-trailer on I-84 in West Hartford
A man was killed in a crash on Interstate 84 in West Hartford early Monday when the BMW he was driving was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer. The crash was reported around 1:30 a.m. on the eastbound side of the highway prior to Exit 44, according to Connecticut State Police. Tamek Nelson Skinner, 30, of New York was driving a 2017 BMW 320 in the right lane of I-84 East when he was struck from behind by a tractor-trailer, state police said. The vehicles became stuck together following the collision. According to state police, Skinner suffered injuries not compatible with life and was pronounced dead at Hartford Hospital at 2:15 a.m. The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 46-year-old Pennsylvania man, was not injured, state police said. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
