Watch: Kentucky cops beat protesters demonstrating against ICE arrest of hospital chaplain
This is the moment Kentucky police were captured beating anti-ICE demonstrators. Demonstrators gathered on Roebling Bridge, which links Kentucky and Ohio in Cincinnati, to protest the detainment of a former hospital chaplain on Thursday (17 July). Roughly 100 people joined the demonstration, according to TMZ. Video of the incident shows a Covington police officer repeatedly punching a protester in the head even after he is brought to the ground with the help of another officer. Police have said the man tried to grab the officer's weapon, but he has denied that claim. Other officers on the bridge can be seen tasing a woman before wrestling her to the ground by the back of her head. Protesters are heard screaming for the officers to stop. Authorities arrested 15 people for felony rioting and various misdemeanor charges, per TMZ.

Italian Americans, for and Against Mamdani, Square Off in New York
For a political protest, especially in the dead of July in New York City, the colorful demonstration on Monday outside of Zohran Mamdani's Assembly district office in Queens had it all. On one side, some members of an Italian American affinity group — which had taken offense at a recently resurfaced social media photo from 2020 showing Mr. Mamdani giving the middle finger to a Columbus statue — spoke of their umbrage, often in colorful terms. They vowed to fight Mr. Mamdani's bid to become mayor. Some pledged their allegiance to Curtis Sliwa, the Republican candidate in November's general election. One held a sign that was less committal, but just as dismissive. 'Anyone but Communist Mamdani,' it said. Across the street, counterprotesters, many also Italian Americans, amassed. Some wore pins from Mr. Mamdani's successful Democratic primary campaign (one woman wore a 'Hot Italians for Zohran' shirt), and held up signs like 'Fast + Free Buses for Nonna!', 'Paisans for Zohran!' and 'You Eat Jar Sauce!' The two groups steadily held their ground, about a dozen cops between them, until the arrival of an infamous interloper — a performance artist known as Crackhead Barney — seemed to reignite the fury of the anti-Mamdani group. Yet for all of the event's circuslike pageantry, it made no direct impression on Mr. Mamdani. He was more than 7,000 miles away, taking a vacation from the campaign trail in Uganda, where he was born. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

Coalition outlines plans to disrupt JD Vance's Cotswolds holiday
US Vice President JD Vance is expected to visit the Cotswolds next month with his family, shortly after Donald Trump completes a five-day tour of his golf courses in Scotland. The Stop Trump Coalition has announced plans to protest Vance's visit, stating he is 'every bit as unwelcome' in the UK as President Donald Trump. The coalition, which includes trade unions and anti-Trump demonstrators, is already organising protests against Mr Trump's visit in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, London, and Windsor. A spokesperson for the Stop Trump Coalition indicated that Mr Vance will encounter 'resistance waiting', even in the Cotswolds. Mr Vance's previous holiday in Vermont was disrupted by pro-Ukraine protesters in March, reportedly forcing his family to move to an undisclosed location.
