Photo: RNZ / Richard Tindiller A woman accused of being behind the wheel of a vehicle that hit pedestrians at the weekend is facing two charges of driving dangerously causing injury. The incident happened on Saturday around 2.15pm. When police arrived at the scene on Fitzgerald Avenue, Christchurch, they found a child with critical injuries and an adult with serious injuries. Both remained in hospital in stable conditions, police said on Monday morning. The 49-year-old accused will appear in Christchurch District Court on Friday 30 May. A woman who was among the first to the scene said she helped a woman and a child who were seriously injured. She told RNZ she helped some men lift the car off a boy trapped underneath. A Christchurch city councillor said safety improvements were being looked at for the site. Central Ward councillor Jake McLellan said the council was looking at roading changes nearby. "I suspect there are design improvements that could be made… I imagine that there could be enhancements that we should at least look at on Hereford Street as well."
