A Windsor Police Service cruiser is seen in this image from October 2018. (Source: Windsor police) The Windsor Police Service has seized a stolen vehicle and illegal drugs and arrested two suspects, thanks to automated license plate recognition (ALPR) technology. Just after 11 p.m. on Saturday, an officer got an ALPR alert while in the 3300 block of Walker Road, notifying of a stolen plate. An investigation ensued and the WPS confirmed the 2013 pick-up truck was reported stolen in Essex. A traffic stop was conducted by officers and both the driver and passenger were arrested. Officers seized 34 grams of crystal methamphetamine, two digital scales, two knives, brass knuckles, and cash from the truck. A 39-year-old woman is now facing charges for possession of a scheduled substance for trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime, and possession of a prohibited weapon. A 62-year-old man is charged with possession of property obtained by crime.

$23M in cocaine seized at Ambassador Bridge

Canada Border Services Agency officers at the Ambassador Bridge intercepted about $23 million in suspected cocaine in Windsor, Ont. (Source: CBSA) Canada Border Services Agency officers at the Ambassador Bridge intercepted about $23 million in suspected cocaine concealed in the trailer of a commercial truck coming into Canada from the United States. On May 23, 2025, during a secondary examination of the trailer at the Windsor-Detroit crossing, CBSA officers say they discovered two suitcases and five garbage bags containing 161 bricks of suspected cocaine. The 187.5 kg of cocaine has an approximate value of $23.4 million. CBSA officers seized the drugs and arrested the driver, Kambiz Karandish, 55, of Richmond Hill, Ont., and transferred him and the suspected cocaine to the custody of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Karandish has been charged by the RCMP with Importation of Cocaine, and Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking. 'The ongoing efforts of our border services officers to intercept narcotics and weapons is to be commended. The CBSA is continually adapting to be in a position to stop criminals by disrupting their evolving smuggling and concealment attempts. We use all tools and intelligence at our disposal to stop narcotics from reaching our streets,' said Michael Prosia, regional director general for the CBSA Southern Ontario Region. The investigation is ongoing.

CBSA seizes over 23kg of Khat at Pearson airport

The CBSA says that Khat is "not an unusual find." (Credit: Canadian Border Services Agency) The Canadian Border Services Agency seized approximately 23 kilograms of the banned stimulant khat at Pearson International Airport earlier this month. The shipment was sent from the U.K. and was intercepted on July 10, the CBSA said. Following the seizure, the drugs were turned over to the RCMP. Khat, otherwise known as Catha Edulis, is a controlled substance in Canada. It is illegal to import or export it. The drug is chewed as a stimulant. It can make people more alert and bring about a feeling of euphoria. According to the Canadian Centre for Addictions, the plant is 'deeply embedded in social gatherings,' in parts of east Africa and the middle east. Consistent use of the drug can lead to addiction and cause anxiety and even psychosis, the Canadian Centre for Addictions warns. It is not known whether any charges have been laid in connection with the seizure.
