Fatal collision on Highway 48 in Sutton, Ont. under investigation

One person has died in a collision involving a dump truck on Highway 48 in Sutton Friday morning. Ontario Provincial Police say the two-vehicle collision happened at Highway 48 and High Street around 9 a.m. The 31-year-old driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say the victim is a Georgina man. No other injuries were reported. Provincial police closed Highway 48 in both directions between Park Road and Ravenshoe Road for the investigation. They expect the closure to remain in place for several hours. There was no word on the cause of the collision or whether any charges will be laid. The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are asking anyone who saw the crash or has dash camera footage to contact the Aurora OPP at 905-841-5777 at OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

(Ottawa Fire Services/release) A man is being treated for critical injuries after his vehicle was involved in a collision with a dump truck in Ottawa's south end. Emergency crews responded to the crash involving an SUV and a dump truck in the 4300 block of Hawthorne Road, south of Leitrim Road, at approximately 6:30 a.m. Monday. Crash Emergency crews responded to a two vehicle crash involving a dump truck on Hawthrone Road Monday morning. (Ottawa Fire Services/release) Ottawa Fire Services spokesperson Nick DeFazio said the SUV was in the ditch, with the driver trapped inside. 'Firefighters confirmed the patient was conscious and began stabilizing the vehicle before starting the extrication process,' DeFazio said in an email. 'Firefighters used specialized tools to remove both the front and rear driver's side doors and the roof prior to completing a dash lift to safely extricate the driver.' The driver was transferred to the care of paramedics. An Ottawa paramedic spokesperson tells CTV News Ottawa the driver was the only occupant of the vehicle. He was transported to hospital in critical condition.

The victim was identified as 71-year-old Thomas Peer, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash happened along Route 22 in Murrysville near Mellon Road. An investigation found that Peer was the only person in the car when he rear-ended the dump truck and became stuck underneath it. The driver of the dump truck was not injured.

Teen driver killed, passenger airlifted after crash with dump truck in central Minnesota

An 18-year-old driver was killed and a passenger was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition following an apparent T-bone crash with a dump truck in central Minnesota on Friday. According to the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened at 8:19 a.m. when a dump truck that was northbound on County Road 1 collided with an SUV that was entering County Road 1 from County Road 66 in rural Crosslake. "Life-saving measures were performed on the 18-year-old driver of the SUV involved in the initial collision, but despite efforts, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene," the sheriff's office said in a release. "The front passenger of the same SUV was airlifted from the scene by North Air Care in critical condition." A second passenger, who was seated in the back of the SUV, was taken to a local hospital with non-critical injuries. It's unclear if the driver of the dump truck was injured. A third vehicle was involved in the crash but the sheriff's office didn't report any injuries to occupants of that vehicle. Identities of those involved have not been released.

The crash happened near the intersection of Nine Mile Road and Van Dyke. Police say the officer was leaving a shopping plaza after conducting a traffic stop and attempted to turn left onto Nine Mile Road. Police say a dump truck and another vehicle on eastbound Nine Mile stopped to allow the officer to enter the roadway when a third vehicle, also traveling eastbound, collided with the officer. Police believe the driver and officer could not see around the dump truck. The officer and the driver were taken to a hospital for minor injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
