DB Cosmetics Review: High End Skincare Dupes For Under $30

These products are hand-picked by our team to help make shopping easier. We may receive payments from third parties for sharing this content and when you purchase through links in this article. Product prices and offer details are not assured, and should be confirmed independently with the retailer. Learn more When you hear the words ' premium skincare' it's often followed by a price tag that makes you wince. Or do a double take. But a new skincare range from an established Aussie beauty brand is turning that expectation on its head. Not only that, but it's a dupe for a high end skincare brand at a quarter of the price. The unicorn in question is the new skincare collection from Designer Brands (DB) Cosmetics. WHAT ARE DB COSMETICS KNOWN FOR? I first tried DB Cosmetics makeup as a beauty writer almost a decade ago, and was impressed by the quality given the price tag. My overzealous use of their contour kit may have softened (it was the Kim K circa 2016 era, after all) but the brand's ability to deliver solid products at an affordable price apparently hasn't. They're now taking the same approach – high-quality affordable alternatives to top tier products – to skincare. And with every product no more than $28.99, it's certainly appealing. The elephant in the room? Yes, the range is inspired by another brand, Trinny London. There's lots to be said about dupe culture but I appreciate that DB Cosmetics, as one of the original 'inspired by' beauty brands, is upfront about which brand and even specific products they have taken inspiration from. These are clearly displayed in the product descriptions on the website. I've used Trinny London skincare before and love it but it is on the more expensive side (from double to quadruple the price). If that's out of your budget, then this could very well be an alternative worth exploring. WHAT ARE THE STANDOUT PRODUCTS? In a world of complicated skincare regimens, the Australian-made range is a welcome streamlined three-step offering designed to cleanse, brighten, hydrate and nourish. Start with the Revitalising Cleanser with Glycolic Acid ($24.99), boost with either the Plumping Serum with Hyaluronic Acid or Brightening Serum with Vitamin C (both $28.99), then finish with the Nourishing Moisturiser with Peptide Complex ($26.99). It's simple, effective and a great option for anyone starting their skincare journey or making some more affordable swaps. The cleanser is thorough without stripping the skin, and carries a subtle, citrus-y scent. Formulated with Glycolic, Lactic and Hyaluronic Acids, ceramides and bilberry and citrus extracts, it brightens and hydrates. My skin has been feeling a little lacklustre of late so I definitely noticed a difference after a few consistent uses. Massaging it into the skin also helps get rid of any stubborn or lingering makeup or residue in tricky areas like around the nose. The Plumping Serum is great for dry or mature skin, while the Vitamin-C packed Brightening Serum tackles dull-looking skin with added antioxidant protection. Simply apply 1-2 pumps on to clean, dry skin daily. Both are great options but I opt for the brightening one to get some much-needed pep back in my skin. While they boast plenty of active ingredients, they're a gentler version so suitable for sensitive skin too. The Nourishing Moisturiser, which helps to hydrate, boost elasticity, enhance the function of the skin barrier and lock in all that moisture and hydration, is also lovely to use and provides a smooth base for makeup. It's a relatively light moisturiser that absorbs quickly so you're not left with that sticky or heavy feeling but may not be quite heavy duty enough for those who like it thick and creamy in the colder months. I was back and forth with travel while I was trialling and loved how easy it was to just take the three products and have a full skincare regimen. The twist and pump packaging is also great for reducing spillage – home or away. HOW DOES IT COMPARE TO TRINNY LONDON? Given it's openly inspired by the brand, there are a lot of obvious similarities. The products promise the same results and share a lot of ingredients although the formulations are not identical. The eye-catching packaging is also very close to Trinny London's signature style although I do love the brighter, two-tone colour ways that DB Cosmetics has dialled up compared to the original. The big test is whether the results you see in your skin stand out enough in their own right. And I wasn't disappointed. WHAT ELSE IS WORTH TRYING FROM DB COSMETICS? If you're also looking for some affordable cosmetics to add to or update your makeup bag with, there is no shortage of options from the cruelty-free and vegan beauty brand. Their Luminous Hydrating Foundation has a 4.6/5 rating from almost 450 reviews thanks to its similarity to the cult NARS Light Reflecting Foundation, while their Blur Primer – inspired by the Lancome Absolute Perfecting Primer – is also a customer favourite. I've always thought highly of their lipsticks, with the range now expanded to include dupes for the Dior Lip Oil (Colour Burst Glossy Lip Oil) as well as bestsellers from Fenty and Rhode. Who said premium beauty products had to break the bank?

Chemist Warehouse manager reveals the $30 'dupe' of $300 luxury item that's set to fly off shelves

A Chemist Warehouse manager has discovered what she believes is a $29.99 'dupe' of a popular $300 luxury item. Jess, a retail manager from Melbourne, has claimed the new Made In Lab. 18 Eau de Parfum smells almost identical to Giorgio Armani's Si fragrance. 'I just found the closest dupe to Giorgio Armani Si I have ever smelt,' she said. 'Like when I mean 'the closest', I mean Giorgio Armani has six notes... Made In Lab has six notes. 'To say I was shocked at how good this fragrance smelt is an understatement.' The employee was amazed that the two fragrances, despite their vastly different price points, contained the same scent elements. 'I can't believe these fragrances have exactly the same notes,' she said. 'This fragrance (Giorgio Armani Si) is one of the top sellers, and for a reason. It's a beautiful, vanilla, woody scent. 'Made In Lab 18 is a brand new scent to - only available at Chemist Warehouse might I add... If you're not already convinced, it's only $30. 'Now I know what you're saying... a $30 fragrance? I bet it doesn't last. Well, let me tell you... The longevity is so good. It lasted on my skin for hours.' The store manager predicted the new fragrance is set to sell out. 'Run to Chemist Warehouse… We all know these will fly off the shelf,' she said. Earlier this year, Jess claimed the $30 Michael Bublé Crazy Love Eau De Parfum 'smell just like YSL Black Opium', which costs $282 for a 90mL bottle. 'This smells divine. And if you ask me, Michael Bublé scents are so underrated,' Jess said in her Instagram video. 'Michael Bublé fragrances are flying off the shelves at the moment and he has just released a new fragrance - Crazy Love. 'The Fragrance has playful top notes of candied fruit and zesty Italian, mandarin oil, followed by a luxurious blend of coffee extract and almond.' The store manager said the ingredients work well together as it 'brings warmth' and is grounded with 'comforting notes' of vanilla extract, patchouli and cashmere wood. 'This new one smells very similar to YSL Black Opium. It's designed for the woman who lives life with passion and flair,' Jess said. The Michael Bublé fragrances have been selling out at Chemist Warehouse, with shoppers saying By Invitation Rose Gold is their all-time favourite scent.

I get stopped in the street by people asking where my perfume's from – it's a dupe of a designer scent & saves me £135

THERE'S nothing better than finding a perfume that "lasts all day" and doesn't break the bank. And one woman has done just that, with a £29.99 Zara scent. 4 4 As an added bonus, the perfume is a dupe of a pricey £165 designer one - namely Parfums de Marly Delina - meaning she saves a whopping £135 every time she buys it. Caitlin took to her TikTok page to share the perfume, as she admitted she "should be gate keeping" the scent so it doesn't sell out. "My nail tech put me onto the nicest Zara perfume ever!" she said. "When I tell you, people literally stop me in the street and say what perfume are you wearing? "The other day I walked into this one bed shop and the girl at the desk was like, 'What perfume is that? You smell so nice!' "I've walked into work and people have literally walked into my office and been like, I can smell your perfume in this whole office." The perfume in question is the Fashionably London one - part of a collection scent queen Jo Malone created with the high street store. "Girls, you need it, you actually need it!" Caitlin continued. "Honestly, it's the nicest perfume and it lasts all day. "I spray this on me and like I'll come home and like my mum or my nanny will be like, 'I can smell that perfume on you!'" Come see what's new in at Zara She added that while she's always loved her YSL perfume, the Zara one even "lasts longer than that". But she did warn there's a side effect she found from using the perfume, as she said: "It might give you a headache for like three days but you'll get used to it!" "Run!" Caitlin captioned the TikTok video. Other people in the comments section admitted they'd had a similar response when wearing Fashionably London. "I got it months ago, have been stopped by people all the time!" one wrote. "Nooooo I was tryna gate keep this," another admitted. Why is Zara so popular? Zara was founded in 1975 in Spain, and the first UK store was opened in 1998. It remains as one of the most popular stores on the high street, but why? Rather than producing more quantities of a style, it is said Zara focuses on producing more styles. Some stats suggest Zara releases 24 trend-led collections every year, 500 designs a week and almost 20,000 per year. Other estimates put its production levels at 450 million garments a year. Even if a style sells out very quickly, there are new styles waiting to take up the space. This means more choices and higher chance of getting it right with the consumer. Zara only allows its designs to remain on the shop floor for three to four weeks, and this pushes the consumer to keep visiting the store or website, because if they were just a week late, the clothes of a particular style or trend would be sold out and replaced with a new trend. At the same time, this constant refreshing of the lines and styles carried by its stores also entices customers to visit its shops more frequently. "Girl keep gatekeeping!" a third urged, calling it the "nicest perfume ever". "I've been wearing this for ages and I've had to stop wearing this as my everyday perfume because I was getting sick of people stopping and asking me what I'm wearing!" someone else said. "It was happening everyday!" "No you really didn't need to share this," another wrote. "My fave perfume ever - I don't know how more people don't know about it … every single time someone asks what I'm wearing." "Girl no!" someone else sighed. "It's my most complimented perfume. Holding you responsible if I can't I get it anymore". 4
