Arizona Is Turning Into a Dystopian Novel
This is Bloomberg Opinion Today, the rhetorical target practice of Bloomberg Opinion's opinions. Sign up here. I flew to Arizona for my cousin's wedding in Sedona over the weekend and it was equal parts lovely and sweaty and breathtaking. I hiked Cathedral Rock in a pair of Pumas that have seen better days (I made it out alive, against all odds). I ate at the Coffee Pot Restaurant, which has 101 omelette varieties on its menu (I got #33: avocado, bacon, tomato, onion and cheese). And I read a lot! The flight from New York was 5.5 hours, so I cracked open Silver Elite, a dystopian romantasy (what else!) which people are calling the next Fourth Wing.

How Netflix hit The Eternaut brings real past horrors home in Argentina
A group of friends gather to play cards in their host's cosy home when the power cuts. Mobile phones die. An eerie snow falls all over the city, killing everyone it touches. The friends struggle to survive, their panic replaced by a growing awareness that humanity itself is at stake. Advertisement This is the premise of The Eternaut, a chilling dystopian drama out of Argentina that is streaming on Netflix. With its mix of sci-fi elements and focus on human resilience, the six-episode, Spanish-language series has struck a universal nerve, rocketing to No 1 among Netflix's most-streamed non-English-language TV shows within days. Netflix has already renewed the show for a second season, with filming scheduled to start in 2026. Ricardo Darin plays lead character Juan Salvo in a still from The Eternaut. Photo: Reuters But The Eternaut has touched on something deeper in Argentina, where legendary comic-strip writer Hector German Oesterheld penned the original graphic novel in 1957 – two decades before he was 'disappeared' by Argentina's military dictatorship, along with all four of his daughters. Advertisement Abroad, publishers are scrambling to keep pace with renewed interest in the source material. US-based Fantagraphics said it would reissue an out-of-print English translation because of the surge in US demand.

Lost for seven years, Josh Holloway is back in the driver's seat
Josh Holloway was stranded in a Hollywood wasteland five years ago when the phone rang. It was J.J. Abrams, and he was offering a route out of the figurative desert — by way of a literal one. The third and final season of the Holloway-starring series 'Colony' had aired more than a year earlier. Freshly 50, Holloway accepted that the dystopian drama was probably his last leading-man gig. If the offer came to play, say, a leading man's father? He'd be there. But that wasn't happening, either.

Reflecting on Cambridge's role as ‘The Handmaid's Tale' ends
The Handmaid's Tale is coming to an end. CTV's Heather Senoran has more on Cambridge, Ont.'s starring role. The popular dark dystopian drama 'The Handmaid's Tale' is officially coming to an end but not everyone knows that Cambridge, Ont. was sometimes a hidden star. The city was featured in many scenes throughout the series' six season run standing in for the fictional community of Gilead. Key scenes in the final season were shot near Queens Square in Galt. (Jeff Pickel/CTV News) Nita Amin, owner of Grand River Beauty Salon on Queens Square, said production rented out her store for three weeks in January. 'They had their camera and everything set up in my salon. They used it because it was so cold and freezing weather in January,' Amin said. Production made her salon look like a children's clothing store. In her display window, they added clothing including a mini bonnet, like the iconic 'wings' the handmaid's wear on the show. And her daughter was here, too!' said Amin. Moss does double duty, often directing and acting, including for the episode shot in January. 'She was coming back and forth to check out the shots and everything,' Amin said. The line was out the door for the day that it was the main filming day. We were super busy in the back, but it was a great experience,' said cook Logan Brown, at the café. 'It's really exciting to see all the unique features and the details and historical nature of Cambridge being featured in a variety of different shows. It definitely has an impact economically, which we of course appreciate. It draws tourism to our area and also makes us pretty proud to see Cambridge on the screen,' said Alana Russell, Director of Communications with the City of Cambridge. How to watch the series finale of 'The Handmaid's Tale'
Blessed be the fruit that is the final season of The Handmaid's Tale. Based on the 1985 Margaret Atwood novel of the same name, this dystopian Hulu Original series has followed June Osborne, a woman trapped in a totalitarian society in the aftermath of America's second civil war. The series first premiered back in 2017, and after nearly a decade (and six seasons), it's time for June's story to come to an end. Though fans shouldn't mourn too much, because they'll be able to return to Gilead (for better or worse) in the new Handmaid's Tale spinoff series, The Testaments, which started production in April 2025.
