Love and the pain of separation are not confined to humans. Several instances of animals showcasing emotional intelligence similar to humans have captivated the Internet. One such incident, capturing a tragic separation between two swans, has gone viral.
Shared by Susanta Nanda, a retired IFS officer known for her wildlife videos on X, the viral video shows one of the swans from the wedge desperately trying to revive the lifeless partner in the pond. Despite several failed attempts, the swan refuses to give up and continues trying. 'A love that even death can't break. This swan tries desperately to wake its lifeless partner — a soulmate it chose for life. Swans mate for life, and when one is gone… the other feels it deeply. Some bonds are forever,' Nanda captioned the video.

The video resonated with numerous social media users, amassing over 14,000 views. 'Heartbreaking. May they reunite again in another life,' a user wrote. 'Loss of a partner is heartbreaking,' another user commented.
'So pathetic. Love, it's the natural affinity of every living things,' a third user reacted. 'Pure love!! So very heartbreaking!!' a fourth user said.
As per an article published in eCraftIndia, swans are known for their strong pair bonds and practice monogamous relationships through gestures including nest building, courtship rituals, and growing up together.
In August 2024, a video of an elephant calf trying to wake its dead mother in the Hadagarh forest under the Anandapur Wildlife Sanctuary deeply moved the Internet. According to reports, the baby elephant sat beside its dead mother for several hours and tried to revive her. After multiple failed attempts, the calf left, but returned to her body and tried again.
