DJI finally brings its impressive Amflow e-bike to US trails

Starting today, DJI's Amflow electric mountain bike range is available to buy in the United States. It comes over a year since the showcase for DJI's very impressive Avinox drive system was launched in Europe, sending shockwaves through the industry and leaving stalwarts like Bosch and Specialized struggling to respond. What's most impressive about the Avinox system — built around a 1000W Avinox motor capable of producing a very responsive 120Nm of max torque — is how much performance it packs into such a diminutive, lightweight, and efficient package. A remarkable accomplishment for DJI's inaugural effort. I can't wait to see what the company best known for its drones has in store for mass-market commuter e-bikes. The Amflow PL e-bikes are DJI's best effort to promote that drive system in a highly-specced and sleek build weighing just 19.2kg. And while I don't have the chops to properly review this e-MTB myself, trail-bombing experts have been won over again and again... and again. They don't come cheap, however: the Amflow PL Carbon starts at $7,499 and jumps to $10,199 for the Pro model, so it'd be wise to first book a test ride. If that price is too steep then it might pay to shop around. In April, six international brands announced electric mountain and gravel bikes built around the Avinox drive system, which has since expanded to at least 16 brands, according to from this author will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed. Avinox Unveils 2025 Major Firmware Updates, Setting New Heights of e-MTB Performance

More Power, More Control, More Customization SHENZHEN, China, May 29, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Avinox, the e-bike drive system brand that enables riders to tackle complex rides with ease, today announces the rollout of significant 2025 firmware updates with its latest device version V00.11.03.04 and the new Avinox Ride App version v1.3.3, delivering enhanced power, greater control, and a suite of intelligent features designed to elevate the riding experience for eMTB riders worldwide. "With our 2025 firmware releases, we're not just increasing the adjustable peak power—we're giving riders more freedom to shape how their drive system behaves," said Ferdinand Wolf, Product Experience Director at Avinox. "These updates reflect our commitment to delivering meaningful innovations that enhance performance, protect components, and make the ride feel more intuitive, responsive, and personalized." More Power Where It Counts Riders can now choose to adjust to 1,000 watts of peak power in Auto, Trail, and Turbo modes—a 17.6% increase over previous performance limits. The adjustable assistance range in Trail and Turbo modes has also been expanded, giving cyclists more control without affecting pre-set configurations. Smarter Boosts and Quicker Starts Boost mode is now adjustable from 10 to 60 seconds, offering flexible power bursts on climbs or during sprints. A new Quick Start function enables the motor to respond more rapidly when pedaling begins—ideal for technical inclines. Advanced Control and Customization The updates introduce Real-Time Tune, a feature allowing riders to use wireless controllers to increase or decrease assist levels on the fly within the current mode. Assist modes can now be reordered, hidden, or renamed, and the control display supports up to 8 data items, including bar and line charts, a stopwatch, and visualizations. In addition, the system now supports: SmoothShift (Sram X0 Eagle Transmission Derailleur required): allows gear shifting during coasting using the AXS controller, enhancing control without pedaling. When a gear shifting is detected, torque will be reduced to achieve chain protection and extend its lifespan (needs to be enabled manually). Control Center: monitor bike status, record data, and manage accessories directly from the onboard display. Custom charging limits: Users can now select battery charge thresholds of 70%, 80%, 95%, or 100%, balancing longevity and range. Improved App Experience and Connectivity The New Avinox Ride App v1.3.3 introduces enhanced UI consistency, the ability to delete ride data, improved Strava synchronization, and historical accident movement viewing. It also supports password security upgrades with six-digit authentication and a 30-second screen lock after multiple failed attempts. Bluetooth compatibility has been refined, ensuring stability when setting drivetrain parameters and improving ride data consistency between the app and display. Update Instructions These updates are available through the New Avinox Ride App version v1.3.3, and are compatible with both iOS and Android devices. Riders are encouraged to update their systems to take full advantage of these new features. For optimal performance, riders need to update both the app and drive unit simultaneously. New Canadian Business Makes Travel Easier for eMTBers

EMTBers who want to fly with their ride to Canada but want to avoid the hassle of traveling with their battery will have a new option thanks to curRent eMTB Battery Hire. Starting in July this year, the new company will rent eMTB batteries from its Whistler location. CurRent eMTB will also ship batteries to customers anywhere in Canada, saving time and money by shipping within Canada as opposed to international customers shipping batteries to themselves from outside of the country, which is much more expensive and time-consuming. 'Renting a battery costs less than renting an e-bike or buying a spare battery,' says Peter Tongue, founder of curRent eMTB. 'Plus, it gives riders the freedom to bring their own bike wherever they go. This service makes traveling with your e-bike as easy as the hills we don't pedal up.' The website is live with a pre-booking form, allowing riders to secure rentals ahead of summer. The process is straightforward: Pre-book online (free) and receive a confirmation before you travel; pack your bike and charger; pick up your battery in Whistler or have it shipped within Canada to your destination; and drop off or ship the battery back. The brick-and-mortar Whistler location will be open until 11 p.m. for later arrivals, and options for purchasing or leasing batteries for extended periods will be explored, Tongue said. Airlines prohibit the checking of lithium-ion batteries due to potential fire hazards. Tongue says that shipping batteries, especially internationally, is expensive and takes a long time, leaving the sender without the use of their bike during that time. With his new service, eMTBers can just pack up their bike sans battery and travel without having to carry on their battery, or rent extra batteries if charging time or charging availability is an issue, such as while camping. "It's hard to know how big the market is for this service," Tongue wrote online. "Hence why we are so keen to get people to fill out the pre-booking form or expression of interest for. Just keen to help others out who want to travel with their eMTB. ... I'm hoping people want this service. I know I would love to travel with my eBike!" Tongue says he's still working out pricing based on insurance, the popularity of different types of batteries and rates from suppliers, but the response online has been positive. 'Whooaaaaaa you're going to be renting out batteries for the Bowhead Reach at Whistler for Crankworx??' one Instagram commentor wrote. ' It costs about $40 each way to ship from ON to BC and a week by ground. Interested in rates, but generally stoked for people traveling from abroad etc. One less thing to worry about. 🙌' For updates and more information, visit here.
