Red Dog Saloon offers £5,000 prize to anyone who can eat 13 burgers in 10 minutes
From July 1, barbecue restaurant group the Red Dog Saloon will be holding an eating competition at all of its venues, offering diners who can neck 13 burgers in 10 minutes £5,000. It is presently the biggest prize being offered for an eating competition in the UK. It is also a prize unlikely to be won anytime soon, as it requires a diner to beat the 12 put away by Leah Shutkever, a competitive eater who presently holds 40 Guinness World Records for her efforts. Still, the Rules are simple: diners have 10 minutes to eat, drinks are allowed throughout the contest, participants must fully swallow any burgers in their mouths within 30 seconds of the buzzer and no one is allowed to leave the table. Most importantly of all? No throwing up. The cheeseburgers consist of a single patty topped with cheese, in a sesame bun. To enter the competition costs £50, which includes three cheeseburgers and a Red Dog Saloon baseball cap. Entrants who eat five burgers will earn the Red Dog Black Card — 20 per cent off for life — and a spot on the restaurant's Wall of Fame; those who finish 10 will bag £1,000. That said, those who are already competitive eaters or have prior experience must pre-book their challenge by emailing enquiries@ An eating challenge is nothing new to the Red Dog Saloon. Founded by Tom Brookes, the group first opened in Hoxton Square in 2011, bringing Texas-style barbecue to the UK and has since grown to nine locations nationwide. In that time, it became known for its hot wings challenge, which uses the Naga Viper chilli, and has made grown men and women cry. Those who wanted to attempt it had to sign a waiver first, just as they do at Dave's Hot Chicken. The Red Dog Saloon joins the growing trend for what's been coined 'dine-ertainment' alongside the likes of MEATliquor's Triple Chilli Challenge, Lost Hour's 50 wing challenge and Polo Bar's Burger Stack. The competition is now live. For more information, visit
