Jets' Justin Fields participates in QB drills, despite toe injury

New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields participated in individual quarterback drills at training camp on Saturday morning, despite a dislocated toe on his right foot. The drills included rollouts and some throwing. Team drills remain off limits for now for Fields, who is considered day-to-day. Fields sustained the injury Thursday in camp in Florham Park, N.J., and was carted off the field. Tests showed the injury to be relatively minor compared to initial fears of a more serious issue. The Jets also have veteran backup Tyrod Taylor on the roster. Adrian Martinez, the 2024 United Football League MVP, and rookie Brady Cook also are in the quarterback room. A 2021 first-round pick of the Chicago Bears, Fields signed a two-year, $40 million contract in March, and the Jets are counting on him to replace Aaron Rodgers. Fields is 14-30 as a starter and has passed for 7,780 yards with 45 touchdowns and 31 interceptions in 50 games with the Bears (2021-23) and Pittsburgh Steelers 2024). He has rushed for 2,509 yards and 19 touchdowns. The Jets open the 2025 season on Sept. 7 against the Steelers and their new quarterback, ex-Jet Rodgers, at home in East Rutherford, N.J. Miami Dolphins backup QB situation: Are they better off now behind Tua than last year?

(Editor's note: This is part of a summer series on the Miami Dolphins. Each entry will break down a specific position group, examining how the 2024 unit performed. what's expected in 2025 and, finally, concluding which group is better, the 2024 version or 2025.) As with all NFL teams, quarterback is the key position determining a team's success. The Miami Dolphins' fate most assuredly rests with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and his health. Last year's quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa (11 starts) Skylar Thompson (1 start) Tyler Huntley (5 starts) THE FIX? Dolphins sign Zach Wilson: What to know about former Jets, Broncos QB How they performed They didn't. At least not in the six games Tagovailoa wasn't able to start. The Dolphins were 2-4 in those games, and we'll never know if a healthy Tua could have made the difference between going 8-9 and going 10-7 and/or making the playoffs. According to coach Mike McDaniel, Tagovailoa has done a lot of reflecting on how important his availability is to this team. Keep in mind Tagovailoa had the highest completion percentage in the league last year (72.9) and posted his third consecutive season with a triple-digit passer rating. The Dolphins' passing attack without him? You don't need to ask, do you? This year's quarterbacks Tagovailoa Zach Wilson Quinn Ewers (seventh-round pick) Brett Gabbert Everyone agreed the Dolphins had to make a serious push for an upgrade at QB2, especially given Tagovailoa's injury history. Their answer was to bring in Wilson, former No. 2 overall pick by the New York Jets. They said they targeted Wilson even though other options may have been Jimmy Garoppolo or Marcus Mariota. While Wilson has been more productive than Thompson or Huntley, his three-year NFL record as a starter is 12-21 and his highest seasonal passer rating was just 77.2. Outlook If Wilson is pressed into duty in 2025 and if he performs better than he did in New York, he would hardly be the first quarterback to find life is better when you're an ex-Jet. Bottom line: Last year's model or this year's? It all revolves around Tagovailoa's health and whether Wilson can show why he was drafted so highly. If Wilson meets expectations, kudos to him. If he plays and is at his 77.2 level, the Dolphins would be no better off than they were in 2024. We'll withhold judgment until then. Cam Heyward says Aaron Rodgers has ‘bought in' after initially calling out QB's waiting game

Aaron Rodgers is getting rave reviews from his teammates ahead of training camp. Veteran defensive lineman Cam Heyward, who has spent his entire 11-year career with the Steelers, is all in on having No. 8 in the fold and behind center for the team this year in a bit of an about-face. 3 Cam Heyward talks Aaron Rodgers buying in. YouTube Rich Eisen Show Advertisement 'It just felt like he has bought in, and it worked out for the best,' Heyward said on 'The Rich Eisen Show' on Wednesday. 'I know sometimes we live in a society where we want things now. But patience has a way of paying off. And to now see he's a Pittsburgh Steeler, and just him walking through the locker room asking questions [about] how we do things. He's bought in, and that's all I can ask for our quarterback. As a teammate, I'm excited to go work with him.' Heyward previously said he would not recruit Rodgers while the ex-Jet pondered whether he would sign with the Steelers for several months. 'Either you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or you don't. That's simple. That's the pitch. If you want me to recruit, that's the recruiting pitch. Pittsburgh Steelers, if you want to be a part of it, so be it. If you don't, no skin off my back.' 3 Cam Heyward has spent his entire career with the Steelers and is a seven time pro bowler. Aaron Rodgers' mystery wife nowhere to be found on his weekend adventures

Aaron Rodgers had some fun in the sun this weekend in Southern California — sans his mysterious other half. The new Steelers quarterback took in a three-hour workout session Saturday, as seen in exclusive photos obtained Monday by The Post, before hitting the beach the following day with a pal and his adorable husky pup near his Malibu home. The outings come two weeks after Rodgers, 41, confirmed he's been married a 'couple of months.' 9 Aaron Rodgers was photographed in Southern California over the weekend as his mysterious wife remains out of sight. © New York Post 9 The new Steelers quarterback was photographed taking in a three-hour workout on June 21, 2025. © New York Post The four-time league MVP — who was dating a woman named Brittani as of December 2024 — initially sparked marriage buzz earlier this month when he wore a black band in an official Steelers portrait after agreeing to a one-year, $13.65 million deal with the club. Speculation about Rodgers' spouse has only continued to mount since his bombshell revelation, as his significant other has remained out of sight. 9 Aaron Rodgers (r.) strolled the beach with a friend on June 22, 2025. © New York Post 9 He played in the sand with his adorable husky pup. © New York Post 9 The Super Bowl winner wore his wedding band to the beach. © New York Post Insiders recently told the Daily Mail that members of his family are 'unconvinced the marriage is real,' speculating if the quarterback 'may have had a symbolic 'commitment ceremony' instead of a legally binding wedding.' Prior to his romance with Brittani, Rodgers was engaged to actress Shailene Woodley. They ended their engagement in early 2022. Aaron Rodgers was Steelers' ‘third option' at quarterback before pairing came together

The Steelers may have waited around for Aaron Rodgers to finally sign a contract, but that doesn't mean he was their No. 1 choice. In fact, the ex-Jet quarterback was apparently Pittsburgh's third choice for the position, ESPN's Adam Schefter recently reported. The Steelers announced that Rodgers inked a one-year contract with the team after a lengthy waiting game, but the decision to bring in the four-time NFL MVP was out of necessity rather than choice. Advertisement 'This was the third option for the Pittsburgh Steelers,' Schefter said during Friday's 'NFL Live' while discussing the signing. 'They were in on Matthew Stafford and couldn't get done a trade. They tried to re-sign Justin Fields, he opted to go to the New York Jets, where he will meet Rodgers on opening day. And after they couldn't get a trade done for Stafford and couldn't get Fields re-signed, they pivoted to Rodgers.' Aaron Rodgers reacts during the Jets' game against the Colts in November 2024. Robert Sabo for the NY Post The quarterback is coming off a season in which he threw 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, but it wasn't enough to help the Jets reach the lofty goals that were placed upon the team at the beginning of the year — and they finished 5-12. Advertisement The Jets opted to move on from Rodgers earlier this year during a meeting at the team's facility, which the future Hall of Famer later went on to criticize in an appearance on 'The Pat McAfee Show.' Rodgers was spotted at the Steelers' facility over the weekend, entering the building a little after 8 a.m. on Saturday. Advertisement Aaron Rodgers arrived at the Steelers' facility June 7. WTAE Rodgers' contract is worth $13.65 million and includes $10 million of guaranteed money, as well as incentives that could increase its worth up to $19.5 million. The 41-year-old will wear No. 8 during his stint with the Steelers, which will begin when Pittsburgh vists the Jets in Week 1.
