Is Luka Doncic ready for EuroBasket 2025? Latest update after knee scare vs Latvia

Is Luka Doncic ready for EuroBasket 2025? Latest update after knee scare vs Latvia originally appeared on Basketball Network. In yesterday's exhibition game for EuroBasket 2025 in Riga, Latvia's capital, the hosting nation faced Slovenia. The matchup was special because it reunited two former teammates whose relationship was often discussed—Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis. Their national team rivalry goes back to 2017, when Luka hadn't even entered the NBA yet. Slovenia shockingly won gold on the backs of Goran Dragic and Doncic at that EuroBasket. In the quarterfinals, they narrowly eliminated Latvia, where Porzingis kept them in the game with 34 points until the final seconds, only for the Slovenians to pull through and ultimately go all the way. Fortunately, everything was fine between the former teammates, confirmed by a warm hug and a brief conversation before the game. Doncic went to work However, once the conversation ended, Doncic went to work, dominating in just 17 minutes of play with an incredible 26 points and five assists performance. At halftime, Slovenia led 52-50. Then, early in the third quarter, the entire arena went silent after a slick fall by a Porzingis teammate onto Doncic's knee after a drive to the basket. The replay looked scary, and Doncic's painful grimace didn't help. He ultimately did not return to the game, and Latvia went on an 18-0 run, completely turning the game in their favor. What worried the Slovenians more than the loss was the injury, which many feared could put his EuroBasket participation at risk. The Slovenian Basketball Federation issued a statement regarding the injury yesterday. "Luka Doncic, fortunately, did not suffer a serious injury in the game against Latvia. The result of an unfortunate incident in the middle of the third quarter is a contusion to the right knee. The team captain and his teammates will continue training on Monday in Stožice after a free week. The national team will be at full strength, as none of the hits sustained by players in the heat of the game caused any serious consequences," they stated. It still appears to be a more serious injury than reported Although it still appears to be a more serious injury than reported, for now, Slovenian fans and those of the Los Angeles Lakers remain calm. Doncic will likely work on a lighter program until the start of the tournament, which has the potential to become the greatest EuroBasket in history. His mission to bring Slovenia a new medal and have an MVP season with the Lakers, especially after visibly getting in better shape, was also confirmed by his former teammate Boban Marjanovic. "I know his mental strength and how he works and how he basically plays for his national team every summer, even if he's tired from a full NBA season. He's still right now in the national team playing for his country. What makes him like yes, you know, you're never tired, you work hard, and everything he does, he works because of basketball," said Boban. The whole world is eager to see Luka Magic at his best From the earliest days of his career, Doncic prioritized playing for the national team. The gold from the aforementioned 2017 EuroBasket was the country's greatest achievement, and now Luka is on a mission, for the first time since the Dragic era, to single-handedly lead Slovenia to medals. His best performance since 2017 was at the 2021 Olympics, when Slovenia finished fourth. If Doncic performs at the level of those games four years ago, when he first scored 48 points against Argentina and then added 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 18 assists against the eventual finalist France, becoming only the third player in Olympic history to achieve that, Slovenia could go far. However, a 0-4 record in exhibition games gives Slovenian coach Aleksander Sekulic reason for concern, as does the potential lingering effects of Doncic's unfortunate injury against Latvia. The tournament starts in about ten days, as the whole world is eager to see Luka Magic at his story was originally reported by Basketball Network on Aug 18, 2025, where it first appeared.

Browns: The origin of Tony Brown's bamboo scepter

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders made quite the impression last week in the team's opening exhibition game against the Carolina Panthers. And we're not just talking about what he did on the field! Sanders created a buzz on social media with a video of his entrance into Bank of America Stadium, which was filmed by his social media team. It wasn't just Sanders that caught everyone's eye, however, as cornerback Tony Brown was right there carrying a bamboo scepter. Brown shared the meaning of the scepter during an appearance on NFL Network on Wednesday, explaining that it began with a trip to Ghana with linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah for JOK's annual football camp: 'We traveled through Ghana, visited the king in the western region, and visited the Cape Coast, a very historically relevant dungeon as it relates to the transatlantic slave trade. So, as I'm going through the tour learning about how the slaves were held, he explained to me how you can try to calm your emotions by speaking with the ancestors as we walk through this dungeon. 'So during the last part of the tour, I asked the ancestors to grant me the wisdom, guidance, and strength that I can use to make you proud. As we left the dungeon castle, it is along the shores of the Cape Coast, I walked into the water to clear my mind. This staff washed ashore at my feet, and I picked it up and thought it was pretty cool. Jeremiah was about 10-15 feet behind me, and when I turned around, they looked at me in awe. The Ghana chiefs we traveled with imparted their wisdom on what it means and explained the meaning behind obtaining this in the way I did. 'I carry this with pride and honor as it connects me to something greater than myself. I want people to rise with me, and I will continue to empower others with my word and help people shine by being my authentic self.' Brown went into greater detail about his experiences in Ghana in a guest blog post at Matt Lombardo's site — check it out here. Brown is in his second season with Cleveland, having signed as a free agent in 2024. He played in six games with the Browns last season, all on special teams, before being placed on injured reserve in late October after suffering a foot injury.

5 plays that stood out from the Bears' preseason tie vs. Dolphins

The Chicago Bears' first preseason game is in the books. After hosting the Miami Dolphins for joint practice at Halas Hall on Friday, they went head-to-head in an exhibition game on Sunday at Soldier Field. With Miami playing their starters at the start of the game against Chicago's second stringers, they had an advantage right out of the gate. However, finals don't matter in exhibition season. It's all about everyone doing their job. A 24-24 tie in the end showed that each team had good moments throughout. There were some big plays made by the Bears on both sides of the ball. Some of which they can go to school on as the exhibition season moves along. These are the five most impressive plays made by Chicago during the game: Goal-line stand led by Bears LB Noah Sewell, 1st Quarter Linebacker Noah Sewell was allowed to make some plays alongside good players early in the game. One of his notable moments came with this big fourth down play on the goal line to stop Miami in their tracks. Bears QB Tyson Bagent's touchdown pass to WR Maurice Alexander, 2nd Quarter Quarterback Tyson Bagent took a minute to get going with the offense in this game, but this pass to wide receiver Maurice Alexander in the second quarter was perfect. Alexander also made a great play to get both feet down in bounds in the back of the end zone. This got Chicago on the board for the first time during the preseason. Bears DE Austin Booker forces Dolphins QB Quinn Ewers fumble, Bears LB Power Echols recovers, 3rd Quarter Defensive end Austin Booker was one of the most impressive Bears players in this one. His signature play came here when he recorded a strip sack on Dolphins quarterback Quinn Ewers. Linebacker Power Echols recovered the fumble and set up another Bears touchdown for the offense. Bears QB Case Keenum's touchdown pass to WR Jahdae Walker, 4th Quarter Quarterback Case Keenum threw two touchdown passes on the day, but his most impressive was to wide receiver Jahdae Walker in the right corner of the end zone. As the social media team put it, he dropped it right in the bucket. Bears safety Alex Cook sacks Dolphins QB Quinn Ewers, 26 seconds left Before the game ultimately ended in a tie, the Dolphins had a chance to gain about 10 more yards to set up a game-winning field goal. Instead, safety Alex Cook sacked quarterback Quinn Ewers to force a turnover on downs. Chicago was unable to set up a game-winning field goal of their own, but Cook's work made it possible.
