Explosive device found in Ceres home during probation compliance check, police say

An explosive device was located during a probation compliance check in Ceres on Tuesday afternoon, police said on Wednesday. Stanislaus County probation officers were conducting a probation compliance check around 2:15 p.m. at a home on the 3900 block of Blaker Road. While searching the home, police said the officers located a suspected explosive device inside. This prompted the Ceres Police Department to respond to the scene. They said they immediately evacuated nearby homes and closed several roads. The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office bomb squad responded to the scene and confirmed the device was explosive. The device was removed from the home and taken to a secure location where police said it was rendered safe. The suspect, 45-year-old Janmichael Valdez of Ceres, was arrested at the scene for possession of an explosive device, police said.

Pa. State Police looking for information on Salem Township explosion

Pennsylvania State Police troopers are seeking information about an explosive device that was placed underneath a lawn tractor in Westmoreland County last weekend. State Police Public Relations Officer Steve Limani said Wednesday that troopers from the Kiski Valley barracks were called following the explosion that happened at a home along Rt. 22 in Salem Township on Sunday evening a little after 8 p.m. Investigators were then able to determine that an explosive device was placed underneath a lawn tractor. "We feel that the incident was contained specifically and isolated to that particular residence and victim," Limani said. "We do not feel that there's any imminent danger to the public when it comes to if you have a riding tractor and you wanted to go cut your grass." Limani was unable to provide any details about any injuries the victim may have suffered. Limani said the State Police aren't sharing much detailed information out of concern that it would compromise the investigation into the explosion. "I appreciate people trying to be patient while we work through this investigation," Limani said. "If they have questions or concerns, obviously they can call the State Police barracks or 911. If anybody has any information or cardinal knowledge specifically about the incident that took place, obviously with the limited amount of information that I've provided today, when we're talking to you, we'll be able to tell you if you have viable information." Limani says the State Police are working alongside the ATF and the FBI to investigate the explosion and to learn more about the device itself.

Man arrested for planting bombs at municipal golf course in Iowa

An Iowa man was arrested and charged in relation to improvised bombs found at Waveland Golf Course. The discovery of one bomb on Thursday, July 10, temporarily closed the golf course as a bomb squad responded. Michael James Valento, 41 of Des Moines, is facing five charges — including four felonies — after two pipe bomb-style improvised explosive devices were discovered at the course, according to a news release from the Des Moines Police Department. An investigation alleges Valento detonated one of the pipe bombs at the golf course on University Avenue on July 3. A second pipe bomb-style improvised explosive device was discovered by golfers on July 10. That one had not been detonated, the release said. The Des Moines Police Department Bomb Squad determined it to be a live device and rendered it safe. Just after midnight on Friday, July 11, police served a search warrant at Valento's home, about a mile away from the course. Valento was not home during the search, Parizek said, but police spotted him nearby and arrested him. More: This Iowa golf course has housed an observatory for 100 years — but problems are surfacing Valento is facing the following charges: Two counts of possession of an explosive or incendiary device with intent, a Class C felony Arson — 1st Degree, a Class B felony Arson 3rd — Degree, an aggravated misdemeanor Dominion or control of a firearm / offensive weapon by a domestic abuse offender, a Class D felony The bomb found on July 10 was in an area that golfers would not normally walk or drive past. It took police about an hour to render the device safe. Valento is being held in Polk County Jail, according to the news release. (This story was updated with new information.) Police detonate ‘suspicious explosive device' at isolated Farmington parking lot

FARMINGTON, Utah () — The Davis County Sheriff's Office detonated a 'suspicious explosive device' at an isolated parking lot in Farmington after receiving reports of a possible bomb threat on Thursday morning. Officer Noelia Wallace with the Kaysville Police Department said an off-duty officer riding his bike on a nearby trail noticed the suspicious device and called it in just before 8:30 a.m. on July 10. Emergency crews responded and closed down the nearby local roads as a safety precaution. The Davis County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad safely detonated the device, causing no damage to property or people. $25,000 is up for grabs as 6th annual Utah Treasure Hunt begins with first hint Officer Wallace said it is currently unclear what exactly the device was, as an investigation into the incident is still ongoing. 'We have collected the remnants of the explosive device. As of right now, this is still an ongoing investigation, and we just want to thank the community for their patience during this time,' said Wallace. The Kaysville Police Department said there is no discernible threat to the community and all roads have since been reopened. This is a developing story.
