We shouldn't be surprised young people like me are becoming radicalised
Young people are communists. Wait, they're actually fascists. Or are they both? According to the think tank Onward and Merlin Strategy's Generation Extreme report, the young people of Britain seem to be rather cross with the political mainstream. Some 38 per cent of them now agree that we'd be better off under 'a military strongman with no government or elections'. Quick, somebody tell Keir Starmer. I wouldn't give too much credit to my fellow Gen Zedders and their newfound love for all things extreme. Being able to simultaneously hold favourable views of fascism, communism, and absolute monarchy doesn't suggest a well thought out political realignment. We can't blame a lack of education: my history GCSE curriculum bounced from the evils of Hitler to Stalin with no time to figure out what that chap Henry VIII got up to. So why is it that young people in particular seem to find authoritarianism so agreeable, while the older generations shun the fringes? I believe there's something Freudian afoot. For once, claims that kids these days refuse to grow up have some purchase to them. The stages of life that transform one from a moody teenager to civic-minded taxpayer, complete with a family of your own, seem to have disappeared, with young adults instead suspending themselves in a state of permanent adolescence. This appears to have happened by choice. People avoid having kids so they can spend their money on consumer goods (sorry, Greta, we're really not that bothered about climate change). The option to bore ourselves to death with endless phone-facilitated entertainment has made real socialisation optional. And if you think the modern world is overwhelming and decide you don't want to work, that's no problem: the Government is all too happy to pay for you to rot in bed, wrapping you in cotton wool like an overbearing mother.

Tory MP brands SNP 'fifth columnists' over weapons funding opposition
Dumfries and Galloway MP John Cooper said there was a 'environment for defence companies in Scotland'. The incendiary claim, which refers to fascists within Madrid who would support Francisco Franco's forces when they took the republican-held city during the Spanish Civil War, came during a debate on delays to new reconnaissance planes for the RAF. READ MORE: 12 countries agree concrete steps to halt Gaza genocide During Wednesday's debate, Cooper (below) said: 'There is something of a hostile environment for defence companies in Scotland, because the SNP Government refuse to put money into what they call 'munitions', which is scarcely credible in the current circumstances. 'Most recently, Rolls Royce wanted to build a welding centre of excellence on the banks of the Clyde, close to where Thales is based, but incredibly the Scottish Government will not put money into it. READ MORE: Jeremy Corbyn to host 'Gaza tribunal' after UK Government blocks inquiry 'To their credit, the UK Government have said they will back it to the hilt, which has to be good news, but it is very strange that the Scottish Government are taking an almost fifth-columnist view of the defence of the realm; indeed, it is quite remarkable.' The Scottish Government does back weapon firms, however it limits how its cash is spent so it does not directly fund the manufacture of weapons. The Scottish Government was approached for comment.

Springfield man arrested after threatening ICE employees in several cities
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A Springfield man was arrested and charged in federal court for calling and threatening Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers across the country, according to federal court documents. The defendant, 51-year-old Gabriel Ramsey of Springfield, is accused of interstate communication containing any threat to injure multiple people, which violates Title 18, Section 875(c) of the United States Code. A federal complaint submitted to the Missouri Western District Court states that from Jan 28-30, 2025, Ramsey sent threatening emails to ICE offices in San Diego, California; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and York, Pennsylvania. In the email, Ramsey said in part that Trump's 'border czar' Tom Homan 'needs to be shot in the head' and hopes every ICE agent gets 'beaten to death with a tire iron.' He also calls ICE a threat that 'needs to be eliminated,' accusing them of terrorizing vulnerable communities and removing people of color from the United States as cruelly as possible and comparing them to fascists and an authoritarian regime. Nazi flag-bearing Missouri man gets 8 years in prison for truck crashing near White House On Jan. 30, 2025, the Fresno, California Office of Enforcement and Removal received a call from someone who identified himself as Ramsey. The complaint stated that he wanted Homan and all ICE agents 'to be shot in the head' and claimed he wanted to harm himself and others, according to the complaint. Ramsey also claimed to have called the United States Secret Service (USSS) and asked their agents to assassinate the president, according to the complaint, saying he wasn't actively trying to assassinate the president himself but stated he would shoot President Trump if he had the chance. On that same day, the Denver, Colorado Office of Enforcement and Removal received calls from Ramsey reiterating that everyone in ICE should be killed. Strafford man indicted for firearm and drug trafficking On Jan. 30, 2025, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents in Springfield and Springfield police officers entered the home of Ramsey's father on Jan. 30, who confirmed Ramsey was inside. Ramsey came out of his room and called the agents fascists and SS officers, stating that he had sent the threatening email to ICE offices, court documents state. Ramsey said he did not plan to act on his threats but wanted ICE employees to feel unsafe. When asked if he wanted to harm ICE agents, Ramsey told agents they would have to guess. Ramsey was then detained by Springfield police and taken to the Greene County Jail, where he is being held with no bond. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
