‘You'll upstage the bride' people fume as wedding guest shows off very revealing dress that's ‘way too fancy'
A FASHIONISTA has come under fire after showing off her wedding guest outfit that trolls insist will ''upstage the bride''. Wedding season has well and truly arrived, which means many people have been taking to social media to share their stylish frocks and gowns. 1 But one woman has left people demanding she changes her outfit for a close pal's garden wedding. The dress code detailed in the digital invite asked guests to "get just a little bit fancy" with chinos listed as an option for men and "dress/skirts" for female attendees. From this brief, the woman opted for a sleeveless floor length silver satin dress with a deep plunging V-neck. And even she seems unsure about her choice, after sharing a picture of her final look in the Wedding Dress & DIY Facebook page. Alongside the snap, she wrote: "Is this too intense to wear as a guest It's at a garden venue inspired by the French countryside. "I'm concerned this is a bit too much for the venue/garden vibes.. and potentially even a little too close to white? "The bride is a close family friend but I don't want to bother her when she has so much on her mind. "Bridesmaids are wearing burgundy red. Please help me out here; suitable attire or too much?" Her post quickly racked up almost 1,000 comments with plenty of fashion fans having their say. Not only did people warn her that it was "too revealing" and would take attention away from the bride, but others claimed its colour broke a basic rule because it looked near-white. Frankie Bridge slammed by fans again for SHEER wedding guest dress that's 'too much' and will 'upstage the bridge' Wearing ivory as a wedding guest is often considered a cardinal sin and the ultimate insult to the bride. One person said: "Too close to white and it looks too good. You'll show up the bride! Don't wear it to a wedding!" A second wrote: "So you want to wear a wedding dress to somebody else's fairly casual wedding…I think you already know the answer…" A third fumed "no, you'll upstage the bride" while someone claimed: "Too revealing for a will be on you not the bride." "Nope it's to fancy for what the invite says and also it looks like you're the bride", chimed in a fifth. Wedding Guest Outfit Etiquette If you're struggling to decided on a dress to see you through wedding season, here's a few rules on what not to wear so you don't get in trouble. Folklore says that wearing red at a wedding means you slept with the groom. Casual attire like jeans and flip flops should always be avoided. Any colour that could be picked up as white or cream - even if it's not. Most would agree that your cleavage needs to be covered. Wearing white is a massive no-no if you're not the bride. And a sixth echoed: "I definitely thought you were asking if it was too plungy to wear as a bride... then realised you're a guest." Others, however, jumped in to support the wedding guest and urged her to wear the show-stopping frock. One said: "Am I the only one saying the dress is fine for the dress code instructions? Lol." "I'd wear this gown; it's beautiful and you look beautiful in it", another insisted. A third agreed: "It's gorgeous. Not white. Wear it. Always better to be too dressed up than too dressed down." Meanwhile, a fourth wrote: "I don't think it matters if it's more casual or not. Just wear it if you like it and don't care what ppl thing if you feel beautiful or sexy in it. It looks amazing on you." Celebs aren't exempt from making fashion faux pas at weddings either. When Dani Dyer wed footballer Jarrod Bowen last week, guest and fellow Love Islander Georgia Steel was slated for wearing what looked like a revealing white dress to her pal's big day. After Georgia posted a snap on TikTok of the lace-trimmed Miss Circle number she wore, the trolls came out in force, bashing her for picking what was in fact a 'soft beige' dress. 'Wearing white to a wedding?' questioned one, while another waded in with: 'Way too bridal for a wedding.' And Georgia isn't alone. Two months ago, White Lotus actress Sydney Sweeney came under fire for the 'inappropriate' dress she wore to her Anyone But You co-star Glenn Powell's sister's wedding. She chose a cleavage-baring corset-style dress from V Chapman in a very pale blue. Fans thought the colour was an issue.

Addressed: What Is the Best Summer Hat to Protect My Face From the Sun?
Welcome to Addressed, a weekly column where we, ahem, address the joys (and tribulations!) of getting dressed. So far we've unpacked how to wear shorts at the office and beyond, how to pack for a carry-on bag for a work trip, how to dress with style in your third trimester, and even how to layer without looking like that chair in your room (you know the one). Download the Vogue app and find our Style Advice section to submit your question. This week's question comes from a Vogue editor: 'I hate bucket hats and baseball caps are too bro-y, but I need to protect myself from the sun—what are my alternatives?' First, let me say that I absolutely live for a little hat—the jauntier and weirder the better. In the summer I love to lean into the classics, so you can almost always find me wearing a bucket hat at the beach or by the pool, but I understand your conundrum, they can often appear somewhat childish. Still I think they are the most practical of sun hats because they do a great job of truly covering your face, and I think there are many designers approaching the style with enough savoir faire to avoid the kiddie connotations. Loro Piana has been going hardcore in the millinery department, and I think its crochet version in 'nougat'-colored cashmere is just delightful—as is this one in natural crocheted raffia from Polo Ralph Lauren. There are also a few truly out-there designs from designers that decided to chop and screw the style: at Hed Mayner, the designer's spring collection featured a hybrid baseball cap/bucket hat; and Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons had an absolute ball making unhinged ladies' gardening visors with little plastic nuclear-inspired windows on the brim (turn your real-life anxieties into a fashion statement!) for Prada's collection. (They also have terriffic nylon and crochet versions that could possibly change your mind about bucket hats!) A cashmere crochet hat from Loro Piana. Photo: Courtesy of Loro Piana A futuristic visor/bucket hat at Prada. Photo: Armando Grillo / Baseball hats, I agree, can be trickier to pull off, and it can be hard to find one that isn't emblazoned with a logo for this thing or that thing. So if you don't have a sports team that you feel like repping at all times, a plain ol' canvas—or even leather, like at Coach—option could be great. But as I think summer is a time to have fun, I would invite you to dip your toe in the wonderful world of personalized hats. Five or six years ago, a group of friends and I all got matching beige caps that said MARK RUFFALO across the front in a serif font. It was an inside joke (and I can't even recall how it got started), but it was fun. It's like repping your own team of friends. There is always the wide-brim sun hat, which brings a real level of drama and panache to every occasion—and can be subverted from its saccharine ways—just look at how Alessandro Michele paired his at Valentino with a pair of groovy trousers and an opulent cropped jacket on the runway. There's also the cowboy hat, which is enjoying time in the spotlight thanks to the millions of people seeing Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter tour. But realistically I think your answer lies in a trustworthy hat from the people that make hats for actually doing stuff outdoors. I love Patagonia's Brimmer Hat and Surf Brimmer Hat styles—I also think the chin strap is a cool look, as long as you don't tighten it right underneath your neck. REI's Boonie Hat has a bit more of a flared brim, and its Horizon Breeze Brimmer Hat has a real safari vibe, which is never not synonymous with Yves Saint Laurent and therefore chic. A little bit country and a little bit rock n' roll at Moschino. Photographed by Acielle / Style Du Monde How to wear a picture hat but make it punk rock at Valentino. Photo: Courtesy of Valentino

I'm a style editor - here's how I've curated the perfect summer capsule wardrobe from the high street
Each year, just before the start of summer, I get lots of friends asking advice on how to dress for the rising temperatures. What jackets can they wear with long dresses? Can they wear socks with sandals? Are strappy tops appropriate for work? Sartorially speaking, it appears summer in the UK is one of the hardest seasons for people to get their heads around. I've learnt that the easiest route to great summer styling is to keep it simple: don't overcomplicate things by having too many options or by buying things with fussy silhouettes or patterns. Instead, I gravitate towards a capsule wardrobe in summer months, which makes getting dressed in the mornings simple. A capsule wardrobe is a thoughtfully curated collection of flattering, versatile pieces that make getting dressed feel effortless. Instead of buying into statement trends that tend to date quickly, it's about embracing pieces that last and embracing a 'quality over quantity' mindset. When creating my everyday summer capsule wardrobe, I look for lighter fabrics in neutral colours that are comfortable and easy to mix and match. I also like to look for pieces that are well-made so that I can bring them out again year after year. Read on to see the essential pieces that you need to make a capsule wardrobe of your own. The linen dress Next dress £60 Shop As the weather gets warmer, I opt for lighter, natural materials that are breathable and help keep me cool. A midi style in a timeless neutral shade (like the Next dress above) is a great option. This style can be dressed up with heels and a clutch bag for an evening event, but also looks great with a light blazer for the office. The boxy tee H&M t-shirt £27.99 Shop A crisp boxy t-shirt is an absolute must for any capsule wardrobe. They match with all colours and look great with everything (from midi skirts to jeans and even under strappy dresses). For a chic look, avoid fitted or cropped styles, as well as outdated cap sleeves. The boyfriend shirt & Other Stories shirt £77 Shop The perfect layer for cooler summer days, an oversized poplin shirt always looks great. It also doubles up as a glam poolside coverup for any holidays you might have coming up. The updated flip flop sandal Mango sandals Thanks to luxury label The Row, thong sandals are currently having a resurgence. Of course, we're not talking about the thin-soled, plastic variety. This season, it's all about thick straps and luxe leather. These will take you from the office to the beach - and everywhere in-between. The straw bag Fatface bag £45 Shop When summer arrives, I rely on big bags within which I can carry around all my essentials. I can't go anywhere without suncream, an XL water bottle and sunnies, which all take up a lot of room. Instead of picking up a tired-looking tote, invest in a slouchy straw bag. Not only are they roomy, but they'll never go out of style. The waistcoat Tu waistcoat £26 Shop They look just as smart paired with matching suit trousers as they do with jeans. Look for waistcoat styles with a round neck and longline silhouette. The chunky earring Asos earrings No matter how neutral the rest of your outfit, a statement pair of chunky gold earrings always make an outfit look put together. These Asos earrings are lightweight (meaning they won't make your ears hurt) and are a steal at £8. The denim shorts John Lewis shorts £39 Shop Long denim jorts are all over the high street this season, and there's a reason why! They're much breezier than their longer-legged counterparts, yet are still appropriate to wear for everyday. Pair them with a crisp white shirt and leather mules and you could even get away with wearing them to more relaxed offices.
