PAWS Construction fined $256k over Perth tradie Nathaniel Good's death
A construction company has been fined over the death of a 19-year old tradie who was struck by a sea container drawbridge ramp. PAWS Construction and Maintenance was fined $256,000 for failing to provide a safe workplace after the company pleaded guilty in the Fremantle Magistrates Court on Wednesday. Nathaniel Good, 19, had been employed with the company for three weeks when he assisted his supervisor to lower a 250kg ramp and was fatally struck, suffering a traumatic head injury in November 2021. A court found the worker had not been properly trained to raise or lower the ramp when he was injured. It was also revealed a winch was installed to assist with raising and lowering the ramp, but it was not operational at the time of the incident. 'There was no documented procedure or instructions for the task, which clearly should have been treated as hazardous,' she said. 'Being hit by falling objects is a high-risk area for injuries and fatalities in the construction sector and across other sectors, and I encourage workplace leaders to consult workers and review their controls in relation to preventing objects from falling. 'In considering the types of objects that can fall, it is essential not only to consider dynamic work tasks such as the movement of loads but also other heavy materials that are installed or stored in such a way that they could fall if something goes wrong. 'Some examples are stored stone slabs, large industrial gates, roller doors and motors for roller doors, ramps that are required to be raised and lowered and similar objects.'

E-scooter driver dies following late-night collision
A man in his 30s has died following a collision between his electric scooter and a car in Dublin on Sunday night. Gardaí said they attended the scene of the two-vehicle collision, which occurred at about 10.50pm on the Old Navan Road in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15. The e-scooter driver was taken to James Connolly Hospital where he was pronounced dead. No other injuries have been reported. A Garda spokesperson appealed for witnesses or anyone with camera footage of the area at the time to come forward. READ MORE The road was closed for a period for examination but has since reopened.

Pair released after fatal Pytchley limousine crossroads crash
Two drivers who were arrested after a limousine and a car collided at a crossroads, killing a woman and seriously injuring a child, have been released from police Police said the crash, involving a black Mercedes 220E and a black Citroen DS3, occurred at the junction of Wellingborough Road and Broughton Road near Pytchley at about 22:15 BST on victim, aged in her 40s, died at the scene and a nine-year-old girl, who was taken to hospital, were both passengers in the Mercedes. Officers said a 53-year-old man from Sandy, Bedfordshire, and a 22-year-old man from Wellingborough, were released pending further inquiries. The 53-year-old was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Teenager killed after car collided with truck in Co Cork
Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses after a teenager died in a two-vehicle collision on the N71 in Co Cork this morning. The incident involving a car and a truck occurred at 7.15am on the N71 between Ballinhassig and Innishannon, south-west of Cork city. The male driver of the car, who was in his late teens, was pronounced dead at the scene. The road was closed on Monday afternoon to facilitate a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions were in place. Gardaí are appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the collision to contact them. Any road users with footage, including dash-cam footage, who were travelling in the area between 7am and 7.30am are asked to make this footage available to investigating officers.
