BREAKING NEWS Young female cop 'stabbed with a screwdriver' during tense confrontation with a cyclist
A young police officer was allegedly stabbed multiple times with a screwdriver after she stopped a male cyclist who wasn't wearing a helmet.
The female constable, aged in her 20s, was stabbed and punched outside a home in Kooringal, in Wagga Wagga in southeastern NSW, just before 2pm on Friday.
Police said the alleged incident unfolded after the officer tried to stop a 31-year-old man riding a bike without a helmet.
She was allegedly punched multiple times in the head before she was stabbed in the arm and the abdomen with a small screwdriver.
The officer was treated by paramedics at the scene before she was taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital in a stable condition.
She was also checked for suspected fractures to her fingers and a head injury.
The man was arrested and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station.
