Sheared hydrant soaks high-voltage power lines in San Fernando Valley
A sheared fire hydrant triggered a massive geyser of water spewing into high-voltage power lines Monday in the northeastern San Fernando Valley neighborhood of Shadow Hills. Officials with the Los Angeles Fire Department received reports of the incident, in the 9200 block of North Sunland Boulevard, north of La Tuna Canyon Road just before 6 p.m. Details are limited and it's unclear if the hydrant was sheared by a motorist or if a water main burst, causing the explosive and continued stream of water, which was visibly rattling power lines and flooding the street. Dozens of images posted to the Citizen App show the geyser shooting water over the top of the lines, dousing numerous transformers and soaking the intersection. 12 Mexican migrants 'jettisoned by pleasure craft' arrested in Long Beach Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department, as well as crews with the Department of Transportation cordoned off the intersection, forcing motorists to turn around and find alternate routes to their destinations. Los Angeles Water and Power responded to the area as well and were able to shut the supply of water off, though it's unclear if it's a temporary patch or if the situation has been resolved. There was no word on whether residents in the area, many of whom came outside to watch the ordeal, lost access to water in their homes. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. ‘Carnage': Wild crash after botched Facebook Marketplace sale
A wild road rage crash on one of Adelaide's busiest roads has been captured on dashcam footage – and it's believed to have occurred after a Facebook Marketplace meetup went horribly wrong. The incident took place on Main North Road in Nailsworth, north of Adelaide, at around 10pm on Monday night. The dramatic clip shows two cars – a silver hatchback and a blue sedan – driving side-by-side before the hatchback suddenly rear-ended the sedan and then swerved into its side. The hatchback then appeared to lose control and veered off the road, clipping a light post before crashing into a fire hydrant, sending water gushing all over the street. Meanwhile, the blue sedan fled the scene. The 21-year-old female hatchback driver told 7News that she and a friend had arranged to meet up with a group of people who were in a blue car at a nearby McDonald's. It is believed that the group was buying a pair of shoes from her male friend, who got into sedan to drive to a nearby ATM at the buyer's request. But while he was in the car, the woman believed her friend was threatened, which is why she followed them and 'did what she did'. A witness, Bilal Elmaway, who assisted the woman and her passengers after the crash, said she had told him she was trying to protect her friend as the buyers had reportedly threatened to stab him unless he complied with their demands. Mr Elmaway said the scene was 'absolute carnage'. South Australia Police told 'Just before 10pm on Monday 12 May, police and emergency services responded to a collision between a silver sedan and a fire hydrant on Main North Road at Nailsworth. 'Upon arrival, police spoke to the driver of the sedan, a 21-year-old from Para Hills who advised that just before colliding with the fire hydrant, she had collided with the side of a blue sedan. 'The blue sedan didn't stop and continued south on Main North Road. The collision is under investigation.' In relation to the claims about the botched late-night sale, no formal report has been made to police. It is understood that the friend managed to escape from the blue sedan after the collision and no serious injuries were reported. Facebook Marketplace has tips on its website for safely meeting up with people from the platform. 'If you're meeting someone in person, we recommend arranging your meeting in a public, well-lit area,' the site advises. 'Use a live location sharing app or function on your mobile phone to share your location with a family member or friend during your scheduled meetup. 'Create and share your meeting plan with a trusted friend or family member.'
