Oman: $7.7mln Quriyat fishing port upgrade 83% complete

Muscat – Construction of a marine wharf development project at Quriyat fishing port is 83% complete, according to Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources. Costing more than RO2.97mn, the project is part of efforts to modernise fishing ports and boost their role in coastal economies under Oman Vision 2040. Mohammed bin Abdullah al Rashdi, Civil Engineer at Directorate General of Fishing Ports in the ministry, said the project aims to boost economic diversification, attract investment and develop the fishing fleet. 'The ministry seeks to create an investment-friendly environment and make better use of fish resources by improving port services for both public and private use,' he said. The development includes a 185m fixed berth on the breakwater, designed to improve maritime handling operations and expand the port's capacity. 'We are also constructing a new marine berth for mooring ships and boats, which will increase efficiency in port operations,' Rashdi said. A 33,000sqm investment plot is being created within the port to host commercial and service activities linked to the marine fisheries. The site will also have a dedicated area for a marine crane to support ship and boat maintenance. © Apex Press and Publishing Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc. (

Quriyat sea dock project reaches 83% completion

Muscat: Construction and development work on the sea dock project at the fishing port in the Wilayat of Quriyat, Muscat Governorate, has reached a completion rate of approximately 83 percent. The project's construction cost stands at OMR2.979 million. This project is part of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources' vision to develop seaports and enhance their role as an economic and developmental driver for coastal communities. This aligns with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 to support the blue economy and provide an environment that stimulates investment. Mohammed Abdullah Al Rashidi, a civil engineer at the Directorate General of Fishing Ports at the Ministry, stated that the sea dock development project is one of the most important developmental projects in Muscat Governorate. He noted that the Ministry aims to achieve economic diversification and create an attractive environment for investments by developing the fishing fleet and providing various public and private services within the port. In a statement to Oman News Agency, Al Rashidi added that the project includes the addition of a 185-metre fixed dock on the breakwater. This is part of a package of components aimed at supporting the maritime and fishing sector and enhancing investment opportunities. The new dock is specifically for mooring ships and boats, which will contribute to improving the efficiency of maritime handling operations and expanding the port's capacity. He mentioned that the project also involves the creation of a new investment area of 33,000 square metres. This area will be dedicated to supporting commercial and service activities related to the marine and fishing sector, which will boost local economic growth and meet the demands of investors. He explained that the project also includes a designated area for installing a marine crane for the maintenance of ships and boats. This represents a qualitative leap in the technical services offered by the port and enhances its infrastructure's readiness to serve fishermen and boat owners throughout the year. Mohammed Abdullah Al Rashidi also pointed out that the port is expected to contribute to the national economy, stimulate economic activity in Muscat Governorate, facilitate shipping and landing, and provide new job opportunities for citizens. Furthermore, it will facilitate and enhance tourism in the Wilayat of Quriyat.
