Young Georgia friends both die after being struck by lightning during fishing trip
Two Georgia teens died after being struck by lightning after storms suddenly rolled in during a fishing trip. Joey 'JB' Nelson Jr., 18, and Randall 'Bubba' Martin III, 19, both of Waycross, near the Florida-Georgia border, were found dead next to a car around 10:15pm on Thursday. The teens, who had recently graduated from Ware County High School, were out on a fishing trip together when severe storms rolled through. Their families found the bodies after the two failed to return home and they went looking for them, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) said. Nelson and Martin's car also appeared to be struck by lightning. Their official cause of death will be determined in an autopsy report performed by the GBI Medical Examiner's Office. GBI is still investigating the incident. Nelson's family remembered the young man has being 'full of promise' and 'deeply loved by his family, friends, and community.' 'His sudden loss has left an unfillable void in the hearts of all who knew him,' they wrote on a GoFundMe that has garnered $12,000 as of Wednesday morning. The money will be used to pay for the teen's funeral. The Martin family started also a GoFundMe for the 19-year-old's funeral. 'He touched the lives of so many in different ways,' the family wrote. 'Keep our family in your thoughts and prayers as we continue to move forward throughout these challenging days.' The fundraiser has garnered nearly $6,000 as of Wednesday morning. Daily Mail has reached out to the families for comment. Lightning kills around 20 Americans per year and injures hundreds, according to the National Weather Service. Around 40 million lightning strikes hit the ground each year in the US, but the odds of being hit by a bolt are less than one in a million, the CDC said. Almost 90 percent of those struck by a bolt survive, but some can be left with lifelong damage. If the teens had made it to the car, they may have survived. 'The outer metal shell of hard-topped metal vehicles does provide protection to those inside a vehicle with the windows closed,' the service explains. If a person is outside the car, the frame and tires will not offer protection.

Former school resource officer at Bloomington North accused of child seduction
A former Bloomington High School North school resource officer is accused of sexual misconduct with a female student on a fishing trip in June last year. The former officer, Jason Tatlock, 46 of Owen County, is now charged with child seduction as a child care worker, battery, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and furnishing alcohol to a minor. His initial hearing was Thursday, June 26. An officer with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources began investigating after the student's sister reported to police that, on a fishing trip to Cataract Falls, Tatlock kissed the student, touched her inappropriately and confessed his attraction to her. The student told police in an interview that on the fishing trip, Tatlock 'assaulted' her and she was 'scared to death,' the probable cause affidavit said. The student told police he had inappropriately touched her and kissed her several times on the trip. "I haven't been the same person since what he did to me,' the student told police, the affidavit said. 'I haven't been the same person. I've had trouble sleeping. ... I've been traumatized." Access Bloomington news anywhere, anytime with the Herald-Times app She also told investigators Tatlock mentioned several instances of cheating on his wife. She told police that two days after the incident on the boat, she asked how many women he had cheated on his wife with. He responded, she told investigators, by saying 'she was the youngest.' In an interview with police, Tatlock said he had touched her inappropriately and made sexually explicit comments but did not recall kissing her. He and the female student continually met in his office throughout the school year, according to the affidavit. The student told police he had looked her name up on the first day of school. She told police he would buy her snacks and coffee, the affidavit said, and continued to email after the school year ended. She and Tatlock both told police that on the day of the outing he bought her a bottle of vodka. She described feeling drunk on the trip. Bloomington North families and employees received a message about the incident on June 24, after law enforcement concluded its investigation. The message said the Monroe County Community School Corp. received a report on June 18, 2024, from the guardian of a now-graduated Bloomington North student alleging Tatlock had sexually assaulted the student. The district immediately contacted the Indiana Department of Child Services. Tatlock was placed on administrative leave that day. According to the affidavit, he told police that school officials called him multiple times and took his school vehicle. He resigned June 19, last year, the district said. He joined MCCSC in July 2023 after 20 years working at the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and the Owen County Sheriff's Office, the email said. The affidavit said he told police he also had worked for the Seymour Police Department. 'The safety and security of our students is the highest priority to the MCCSC,' the email said. 'We will continue to work cooperatively with our law enforcement partners and the prosecutor's office in this matter." Azle fisherman missing after night trip on Eagle Mountain Lake; boat found empty
A search is underway at Eagle Mountain Lake after a North Texas man went missing during what was supposed to be a routine night fishing trip. According to his family, 41-year-old Ruben Fausone hasn't been seen since Tuesday night. His wife, Amy, said night fishing was something he did often, which is why she's struggling to understand how his boat and phone ended up abandoned — on opposite sides of the lake. Ruben Fausone, 41 Ruben Fausone Family "He went out around 7:45," she said. "We last texted around 8:20. I woke up around 11:45 and thought, 'It's almost midnight, why isn't he home?'" Phone found at marina Amy said her husband's phone last pinged at Augie's Sunset Café and Marina — a location she said Ruben had never mentioned before. With no word from him and worsening weather the next morning, panic set in. "I'm just hoping somebody finds him," she said. She drove to the marina, where someone had found his phone on the dock. Later that afternoon, law enforcement with the Tarrant Regional Water District — now leading the investigation — located his gray and blue fishing boat on the opposite side of the lake. It was floating between two docks, undamaged and unanchored. Witness recalls late-night sighting "The stories are like, he got into his boat and left, and they saw it just drifting in the water at one point," Amy said. Jeff Hunter, who lives nearby, said he saw Ruben speaking with another man on the dock late Tuesday night. Around 2 a.m., he spotted Ruben's boat in the middle of the lake. "On the weekends? Yeah, you might see that," Hunter said. "But a weekday? It's very odd." Amy said her husband would never swim at night. Family pleads for help As search efforts continue, the family is pleading for help. Amy shared that Ruben was last seen wearing a bright teal shirt and hopes someone may recognize him and come forward. "Right now, I'm hoping somebody reaches out and can tell us he's OK," she said. "I just want to find him and make sure he's OK." As of Thursday afternoon, law enforcement said the search is ongoing.
