Police in Orange County have arrested a teenage boy who they say shot and killed a man with a flare gun. Officials responded to reports of a shooting shortly after 8:30 p.m. on May 23 in the area of Florida Street and Utica Avenue in Huntington Beach when they encountered a man "suffering from a single gunshot wound inflicted by a flare gun," the Huntington Beach Police Department said in a written statement. Paramedics rushed the badly wounded man to a hospital, where he soon died from his injuries, officials said. His identity was not released pending notification of family. "The suspect initially fled the scene but was quickly located by responding officers," according to the police statement. The flare gun believed to have been used in the killing was also seized. The suspect, whose identity was not released due to his age, was booked at a juvenile hall on suspicion of murder, police said. "Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe this was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the community," the statement added. A motive was not available. Investigators continued seeking witnesses and surveillance camera footage and asked anyone with information to contact the Huntington Beach Police Department. According to a Huntington Beach Police Department media release, officers responded to the intersection of Florida Street and Utica Avenue, located just west of Beach Boulevard, around 8:40 p.m. Upon getting to the scene, the officers located a man who had sustained a single gunshot wound inflicted by a flare gun, the media release states. Huntington Beach Fire Department paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital where he died of his injuries.
