An opportunity to flaunt the winter raiment of the 1930s Art Deco era comes with Winter Art Deco in Napier this weekend. Photo / NZME Two Winter Art Deco events scheduled for the new Art Deco Centre being established at the former Women's Rest rooms in Napier's Memorial Square have been moved because the facilities are not yet ready. It was a close call in hoping the renovation of the premises would be completed in time for the three-day festival starting on Friday. Art Deco Trust general manager Jeremy Smith conceded it had been a bit 'optimistic'. 'But we are only a couple of weeks away,' he said, confirming the trust expects to start moving out of its current site on the corner of Tennyson and Herschell Sts to relocate by the end of July, and be settled in for an official opening planned for late August. The Women's Rest, first opened in 1926, was closed to the public in 2013 because of seismic concerns. Shifted are Saturday daytime events the Fashion Flaunt, now to be held at Napier Stage and Gather, a hire venue at 126 Tennyson St, and the 40th anniversary showing of festival-inspiring documentary The Newest City on the Globe, now to be at the soon-to-be-vacated No 7 Tennyson St site.

Watch: India captain Shubman Gill speaks Telugu to praise golden arm man Nitish Reddy
India captain Shubman Gill decided to flaunt his Telugu-speaking skills as he praised Nitish Kumar Reddy after his incredible spell at Lord's during Day one of the third Test against England. Nitish proved to be the man with the golden arm as he dismissed both the England openers, Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley, in his very first over and troubled the other batters with his precise line and length. advertisementThe moment between Gill and Nitish happened in the 16th over as Nitish was bowling to Joe Root. The England batter decided to counter the Indian all-rounder by stepping down the wicket, only for the ball to bounce a fair bit leaving Root in an awkward spot. This naturally brought in a lot of cheers from the Indian team with the captain leading the way. ENG vs IND 3rd Test Day 1 Updates The stump mic picked up Gill saying, "Bagundi ra mawa (It's good, man)," said Gill to Nitish. While the Indian pacers did restrict Duckett and Crawley from getting off to a fast start, the opening duo looked to be calm and controlling their scoring rate. Right after the drinks break, Gill gave the ball to Nitish as he wanted to get a breakthrough. The very first ball from the all-rounder left Duckett beaten before he was hit for a boundary. But Nitish came back and made Duckett play a false shot down the leg side and Rishabh Pant made no mistake with the catch. , | England vs India3rd Test | Day 1 JioHotstar #ENGvIND StarSportsTelugu (@StarSportsTel) July 10, 2025He almost got Ollie Pope out for a duck as the ball just evaded the grasp of Gill. Such a thing as a free Munir lunch
Agencies Representational Washington: Asim Munir was getting late for his lunch at the White House. He couldn't decide what to wear. Go in civvies, or flaunt the field marshal look to impress the host who has a thing for uniforms? The occasion demanded T, a.k.a. Babaji, was going to bless Munir as de facto ruler of Pakistan. No civilians allowed. Indeed, Pakistan's ambassador was told to wait outside along with Mohsin Naqvi, the interior minister no less, who has been following Munir like a pet on this trip. Only the ISI chief - and Munir's namesake - Asim Malik was allowed. Guess what the puffed-up field marshal said about Pakistan's PM before his big day out? He told the Pakistani diaspora where he was garlanded and showered with petals and paid for by rich Pakistani Americans, 'Even if a dog becomes prime minister and does a good job, you have to appreciate that.' Spoken like a man who sees many years in power. But, then, who cares about democracy or the people in Pakistan? Not the Americans. Forget Babaji. Even Bidenji's state department couldn't bring itself to utter a word about all the electoral rigging Munir did to keep Imran Khan in jail and the Sharif Bros in power. Trump cares about business, and his Nobel to the lunch. The meeting was such a secret and the blessing ceremony so private, no photos were released. As a cynical Pakistani said, the only statement to be released was the menu. 'ALL FOOD IS HALAL', the menu card declared in all caps lest the field marshal miss the fine print. He didn't go to elite schools, you see, and carries affiliated complexes that play out in violent ways. He must prove he course was carefully chosen - goat cheese gateau, tomato jam, buttermilk biscuit crumbles and young variegated lettuces - to soften the guests. The main course - rack of spring lamb, burnt cipollini soubise, Carolina gold rice and jambalaya - was designed to make them delirious with self-importance. Babaji - assisted by Marco Rubio, who must explain Baba-speak to the world as his NSA and secretary of state - got down to business over dessert (nectarine tart and ice cream). 'Can you bring Iran to lunch?' 'Don't worry, Respected Sir, my country is your country. My Balochistan is your Balochistan. My intel is your intel,' replied the two Asims in unison. Satisfied, the seeker left the room and later went on camera to repeat the new mantra: Pakistan is great, etc. Puffed, chuffed and nearly bursting with hot air, the field marshal proceeded to his next engagement - a dinner at the Pakistani embassy with think-tankers, usual former ambassadors, four Congressional aides and five Western journalists (Pakistani journos weren't invited). But the guests had to sing for their supper, and how. The rags-to-riches-to-field marshal delivered a 90-mn screed on 'Poor Pakistan, Evil India: A Very Selective and Revisionist History' with excerpts on 'The Unbelievable Greatness of President Trump'. He banged his fist on the table, he railed and promised revenge if India stopped the audience was bored to tears - the guests already knew the history. To make matters worse, they were sweating buckets. Literally. The air- conditioning at the embassy had reportedly gone kaput, much like democracy back home. But Munir wasn't quite done. Cue in a few propaganda videos. How about visiting Pakistan for tourism and retracing the old 'hippie trail'? And try the new highs. Weed is so yesterday. Sabrina Carpenter Crashes Quinta Brunson's SNL Musical Monologue About Being Short, Tom Holland and Kendrick Lamar Get Shout Outs
'Abbott Elementary' star and creator Quinta Brunson is short and she isn't afraid to flaunt it. Hosting 'Saturday Night Live' for the second time on May 3, Brunson opted to deliver her opening monologue in musical form, breaking into song and singing about the many benefits and joys of being short. 'Shorties, tonight, this one's for us,' Brunson (flanked by dancers) said, shouting out perks like getting 'wasted on one glass of wine' and wearing crop tops as dresses. Brunson's next verse shouted out some of Hollywood's shortest, highest-achieving celebrities, including 4'8' Olympian Simone Biles, 5'7' actor Tom Holland and 5'5' 'Not Like Us' rapper Kendrick Lamar. Continuing to dance and sing her way through the monologue, Brunson was joined on stage by 'Short N' Sweet' songstress Sabrina Carpenter, who joked about their mutual experiences being short. 'When you eat short rib, does it just taste like rib? When you read short stories, are they just novels?' Though he didn't take part in the number, the musical guest for Brunson's second SNL episode is 'Beautiful Things' singer Benson Boone, who made headlines with his breakout performance at Coachella last weekend. In addition to appearing in the same 'SNL' episode, Boone and Carpenter were both nominated for Best New Artist at the 2025 Grammys, though the award ended up going to Chappell Roan.
