Charlottetown police charge man with 6 new offences related to vehicle theft
A Charlottetown Police Services sign is pictured in this file photo. Charlottetown Police Services charged Richard Joseph Leclair with six new offences following his arrest on July 9. The new charges were added to nine charges laid earlier in the month, said a news release. The new charges include: flight from police dangerous driving possession of a stolen vehicle The nine previous charges include: Taking a vehicle without consent Theft under $5,000 Possession of a stolen vehicle – two counts Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle Flight from police Prohibited driving – three counts Breach of probation – six counts Leclair was remanded into custody. N.S. RCMP arrest man after flight from police
RCMP Northeast Traffic Services (NETS) have arrested a 24-year-old man who allegedly fled from police in Brookfield, N.S. An RCMP officer from NETS attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle travelling on Highway 2 in Brookfield for having expired plates on June 5 around 11:15 a.m. The driver of the Volkswagen Jetta did not stop and fled from police at a high rate of speed. RCMP did not pursue the car in the interest of public safety. The Jetta was later found abandoned on a dead-end road in Pleasant Valley. RCMP Police Dog Services, Colchester County District RCMP, the Department of Natural Resources Air Services and an RCMP remotely piloted aircraft system operator searched the area and found the driver and passenger fleeing on foot. The driver from Dutch Settlement was arrested. He was later released on conditions and will appear in Truro provincial court at a later date facing two counts of flight from police and dangerous operation of a conveyance. The driver was also issued summary offence tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act for: driving a motor vehicle without a motor vehicle liability policy operating and unregistered vehicle failing to display number plates for current registration year operator of vehicle operating vehicle without a valid inspection sticker in place or possession valid certificate for vehicle For more Nova Scotia news, visit our dedicated provincial page

Man charged in New Glasgow, N.S., following flight from police

(Andrea Jerrett/CTV Atlantic) A 29-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly failed to stop for police in New Glasgow, N.S., Thursday morning. New Glasgow Regional Police officers observed a white Chevrolet truck driving with unregistered licence plates on Elm Street around 10:47 a.m., a news release said. Police tried to stop the vehicle but say the truck fled at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at a stop sign. Police did not pursue the vehicle in the interest of public safety. Officers saw the truck several minutes later on the Granton-Abercrombie Road and tried to stop it again. However, they say he again sped away and they decided not to pursue him due to safety concerns. Police managed to identify the man after an investigation and arrested him around 11:50 a.m., in Westville, N.S., at a Grant Street residence. The suspect, from Pictou County has been charged with: flight from police dangerous operation of a vehicle driving a motor vehicle without insurance driving while revoked The man, who has not been named, was released on conditions and will appear in Pictou provincial court on Aug. 25, 2025.
