Manchester United given two-star food hygiene rating at Old Trafford after mouse droppings found

Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium has been given a two-star food hygiene rating after mouse droppings were found in multiple hospitality areas. The inspection report from the Trafford Council, which was completed on April 16, gave recognition that 'significant work has taken place to control the mice activity on site' but found that seven different areas of the stadium — including the Ambassador Lounge, the Number 7 Suite and the Devil's Bar — contained rodent droppings. Advertisement A number of other issues were highlighted in the report from the environmental health experts, including open containers of condiments that exceeded the recommended label dates of the manufacturer's instructions. One example highlighted how a pesto container had a 'one-month' label on it despite manufacturer instructions to use within eight days. Other areas of the stadium had no hot water or soap available, while the general cleanliness of several areas of hospitality in the stadium was criticised in the report. The council's report said United 'need to persevere with the measures being implemented to eradicate activity within food areas'. A Manchester United spokesperson said: 'Manchester United implements a robust pest-control system throughout Old Trafford. 'Multiple weekly checks are made in all catering areas and stringent measures are taken to ensure levels of hygiene and cleanliness are high wherever food is stored, prepared and served. 'If incidences of this nature do occur at the stadium, immediate and appropriate action is taken.' In December 2023, United were given a one-star rating after guests at a corporate event were served raw chicken. Before the incident and an inspection in November of that year Old Trafford had a maximum five out of five rating. The FSA is an independent government department that works to protect public health, with its ratings assessing the handling of food, how food is stored and prepared and the cleanliness of facilities. Any businesses given low ratings by the local authority food safety officer must make urgent or major improvements to hygiene standards. If it is judged that there is an imminent risk to public health, when food may be unsafe to eat, part of a business could be stopped or closed down until it is safe to recommence. United draw substantial revenue from hosting events and providing hospitality, particularly around matchdays. Restoring a rating can take a lengthy period of time and could also impact the hospitality rates the club can charge. ()

Warning over chicken salad sold by major supermarket after woman finds COCKROACH

A repulsed woman has claimed she found a dead cockroach lurking inside her Costco salad, leaving her feeling nauseous. Amberleigh Webb from east London said she was treating herself to a chicken Caesar salad when she allegedly made the gruesome discovery. After tucking into her meal in April, the 23-year-old said she saw the bug and 'screamed'. The cockroach looked like it had wings and she immediately 'felt so sick', running to the bathroom to immediately rinse her mouth out with water. In stomach-churning images posted on social media, the revolting bug is also seen hidden on the side of the salad. Ms Webb, who works in events, claimed she then made a complaint to the Costco branch in Chingford, East London, and was given a full refund of £5. Recalling the horrifying moment she made the discovery, she said: 'It was moments after leaving the store and when I went in for my third bite, I saw the bug and screamed. 'I was so shocked couldn't believe I saw a bug. It looked like a cockroach but had wings on it. 'I felt so sick and I had to get water to wash my mouth with. I was very close to throwing up due to the disgust. The cockroach looked like it had wings and she immediately 'felt so sick', running to the bathroom to immediately rinse her mouth out with water 'I felt so violated. I actually cried because I was so disgusted. We looked it up and we believe it's a German cockroach.' She added: 'It's put me off eating any food from there. I will never buy any food from Costco again.' MailOnline has approached Costco for comment. But it is not the first time the warehouse supermarket has come under fire with worm allegedly even found in their fish. Last year, a Costco shopper living in Oregon in the US, said she was shocked to find a roundworm in one of her newly purchased eggs. The buyer, who's known as @xiomis95 on TikTok, posted a video showing the worm wriggling in the bowl of freshly cracked eggs. Another woman from Maryland, also claimed she once found a live worm in cod fish she bought from Costco. Emily Randolph shared the video to her Facebook page that showed the live worm climbing up the inside the package of cod underneath the protective cellophane wrapping. Brits suffer around 2.4million cases of food poisoning every year, according to the Food Standards Agency (FSA), costing the UK up to £9 billion each year. In the US, meanwhile, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates around 48million fall sick with food poisoning annually. Of these 128,000 are hospitalized. It also proves fatal in around 3,000 cases.

EXCLUSIVE Man United hit with ANOTHER two-star food hygiene rating after mouse droppings were discovered in £600-per-person suites at Old Trafford

Manchester United have been hit with another two-star food hygiene rating after more mouse droppings were discovered at Old Trafford. United saw their rating plummet from four stars to two back in November and the following months have been spent working to restore it. But Mail Sport has seen the inspection report from environmental health experts - completed in mid-April - which details the findings of mouse droppings in seven areas across the stadium. Droppings were discovered in, among other places, the Ambassador Lounge, in the Manchester Suite, and in the Number 7 suite, with some of those noted to have been 'under the buffet bar'. The No 7 suite, described on the club's own website as 'one of the most stylish spaces' in the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand, with prices starting from £550 per person. The Manchester Suite, where the report adds a 'large number of droppings' were discovered, comes in at around £600 per person when the price of the box is divided. 'If incidences of this nature do occur at the stadium, immediate and appropriate action is taken.' Old Trafford's lack of modernisation, along with the fact that more than 250,000 people eat at the stadium's luxury restaurants each season, presents huge challenges. There are 29 kitchens and catering facilities operated from Old Trafford and mistakes in any of them can impact the overall food hygiene rating. Other concerns flagged include 'dirty' areas and the labelling of certain food products. One such example was a container of pesto with a 'one-month' label on it, despite manufacturer instructions to use within eight days. Both of those issues are understood to be being addressed immediately. Inspectors noted that despite once again handing out a two-star review, they noted that 'it is evident that significant work has taken place to control the mice activity on site'. One of their many recommendations was that United 'needs to persevere with the measures being implemented to eradicate activity within food areas.'
