Kansas State's Avery Johnson faces high expectations as Wildcats open season in Ireland

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Kansas State fans placed quarterback Avery Johnson on a pedestal before he arrived on campus. He was the top recruit who decided to stay home and play for the in-state school, and he was expected to lead the Wildcats to Big 12 greatness. There were games last year in which he did exactly that. There also were games in which he fell right off that pedestal.

Texas A&M Football Class of 2026 Safety Target Jerih Edwards Ascends To Five-Star Ranking on ESPN 300

Texas A&M Football Class of 2026 Safety Target Jerih Edwards Ascends To Five-Star Ranking on ESPN 300 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Texas A&M football secured two five-star recruits from the class of 2026, Tristian Givens and Brandon Arrington. Now, the Aggies have an opportunity to land a third. One of their targets recently bumped up from a four-star to a five-star on ESPN 300 rankings. He's now listed as the No. 24 recruit. On 247Sports Composite rankings, he's ranked No. 23 overall, No. 2 out of safeties in the country, and No. 3 out of his state. ESPN's Craig Haubert and Tom Luginbill wrote: "He blends elite size with outstanding speed, consistently posting 4.5 40-yard dash times that translate to the field. He's also a physical presence against the run. All those attributes result in an extremely versatile safety who can cover ground, match up in coverage and come downhill as a factor in the box. Advertisement "Edwards should get the most of his rare on-field physical tools. He's a focused, competitive teammate and his leadership over the past two years in high school stands out." At the moment, a bunch of schools are in the running: Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Oregon, and Texas A&M. Crystal Ball® Predictions have Edwards going to Georgia unanimously, but as the Aggies know after losing out on an offensive tackle on Thursday, unanimous predictions can always be flipped. Quarterback recruit Helaman Casuga also received a better rating, ranking No. 296 on ESPN 300. Casuga recently participated at the Elite 11 Finals and showcased his talents despite having been injured for a majority of last season. "Most notably, his accuracy and instincts on timing routes were as good as any. He must continue to refine his body and manage his weight, but Casuga has a competitive temperament," Haubert and Luginbill wrote. Kobe Bryant's 5-Star Nephew Makes Major Career Decision

Kobe Bryant's 5-Star Nephew Makes Major Career Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Jett Washington, Kobe Bryant's nephew and a five-star Class of 2026 safety, has narrowed his choices down to three programs. The USC Trojans are included in that trio. Advertisement 'NEWS: Five-Star Safety Jett Washington is down to Alabama, Oregon, & USC, he tells me for @on3recruits,' On3's Hayes Fawcett wrote Tuesday on X. 'The 6'4 205 S from Las Vegas, NV is ranked as a Top 30 Recruit in the '26 Class (per On3 Industry).' Washington was named MaxPreps' Nevada Player of the Year last season. He totaled 38 tackles, five interceptions, two pass breakups, and a forced fumble for Bishop Gorman, a perennial prep football power in Sin City. He's Nevada's top-ranked recruit in his class, an accolade that makes sense after hearing about his elite abilities. Lincoln Riley has surely taken notice. Southern California Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley.© Kirby Lee-Imagn Images 'A physical specimen with rare size and rare range that could be positioned over the top, in the box or in the slot,' 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins said in a scouting report last month. 'Should be viewed as a potential defensive chameleon that can prevent touchdowns in a single or two-high look while also matching-up with large slot and in-line weapons when needed. Advertisement 'Looks like the next can't-miss talent to come out of Bishop Gorman with his game tape and athletic markers. Sunday upside in an era where position lines continue to blur on defense.' 247Sports' composite rankings list Washington as the No. 4 safety in his class, behind Bralan Womack, Jireh Edwards, and Blaine Bradford. Bradford is an Ohio State pledge.
