Pontllanfraith: New £14 million sports hub set to open

The facility, named Y Cwmpawd, is part of a wider vision to improve leisure and education facilities across the area, and is expected to open later this summer. The centre includes a multi-purpose sports hall, changing rooms, and a small 3G pitch that will be available for community use outside of school hours. Councillor Chris Morgan, cabinet member for leisure services, said: "It was great to visit the site and see first-hand how this fantastic new facility will look. "We have made significant investment in new sport and leisure facilities over recent years – including the new Y Cwmpawd site – with more planned for the future. "This is helping to deliver modern, fit-for-purpose sports facilities across the whole county borough in line with our agreed Sport and Active Recreation Strategy." Y Cwmpawd will also include a new Centre for Vulnerable Learners and is being delivered as part of the council's Place Shaping programme. This programme supports strategic investment in schools, leisure, housing, and infrastructure projects across the county borough. Once the new 3G pitch is open, the adjacent pitch at Pontllanfraith Leisure Centre will no longer be in use. The council has said it will keep residents updated on the official opening date of the new facilities. For more information about sport and leisure options available across the county borough, residents can visit the Caerphilly Leisure Lifestyle website.
