How Immigration is Affecting the Jobs Numbers
Friday's jobs report resolves a key mystery in the economic data.
Before Friday's big revisions, Labor Department payroll numbers showed the economy adding 150,000 nonfarm jobs per month in the second quarter.
But most economists doubt the economy can sustain payroll growth of more than 100,000 per month without more foreign-born workers coming into the labor force, and immigration has fallen sharply since mid-2024.
